Tuesday Travels and Conversations

Love these hawk pictures that Roy took on Sunday.

It seems a little quiet this afternoon. Nothing being taken care of, nothing being accomplished. Buddy is down for a long nap, I took a short nap and waiting for a phone call. Well, what do you know, it just came.

I stopped at the produce stand in SC this morning after filling SequihShawn with cheap SC gas. Local farmers are beginning to bring in their produce for them to sell. All kinds of veggies but what got my attention was the plumquot. In fact the farmer who grows them stopped while I was there. Only two baskets were left of a full delivery he made that morning around 8:00 and he'd be bringing more in later. The lady who works there is part of the family that owns the peach orchard and we kind of remembered each other from our conversations last year at this time as well as from last Thursday. At the Shell station another Tundra truck owner and I had a conversation with our trucks being twinners except we have the bed of the truck covered. I love these conversations as people here are so friendly. From there I stopped at Biltmore Park. The magazine from England that I like was available in the states on May 28th, so I picked it up as well as a couple of other magazines I like. Since it was before the lunch rush I went to The Moose Cafe for lunch and then came on home. There have been a few rumbles of thunder but we didn't get any rain. Roy said the apple trees need to be watered and I am holding out for a rain shower sometime this week.

We cooked out yesterday grilling ribs and had potato salad and baked beans. We worked around here changing out filters and batteries. Roy staked one of the apple trees that is bent over from all the wind we have had this spring. There was also a quick trip to Ace Hardware and like usual we came home with more than what we originally went to pick up. Roy did some spraying for carpenter bees and I think we need to do another round on the front porch. Our friendly bunny was out last night and it let me get closer than usual. He was having a treat of safflower seeds and clover. The birds were in full voice last night and we enjoyed the concert. Well, I ended up enjoying the concert because Roy went in the house to finish watching a marathon of a show he likes. We are both happy we do not have a TV downstairs although I am beginning to think I wouldn't mind one in our bedroom but it is not a priority.

Oh joy, the pitter patter of rain. Drink in flowers and trees. I think dinner tonight will be a fruit dinner. We have strawberries, peaches, plums and watermelon. Maybe I will make a smoothie or aqua fresca.. I'm thinking I will finish this up and go out on the front porch and enjoy the rain and the breeze.

Thankful and So Blessed

Sometimes it is hard to believe that we live here and experience four seasons. Spring holds the stage right now but it is slowly giving way to summer blooms. The shades of greens have reached their maturity on the trees giving a totally different picture to enjoy. The white blossoms of the blackberry vines soon will give way to fruit that will darken to a deep purple. The flashes of red cardinals fill the gardens as well as lending beauty to our drives along these roads. Guess you can't tell I love this place where even weed flowers are beautiful lining the culverts and ditches along the roads. The wonder of God's creation and living in a postcard scene truly fills my senses and spirit.

Yesterday we went to church and came home to enjoy the last of our delicious Amish bologna for lunch. We headed out to the grocery store to pick a few supplies to grill corn on the cob for the cookout at church last night. Once we got home I had to take a Sunday afternoon nap. We grilled the corn and went a little early because parking up at the picnic shelter still scares me. It is like I think gravity is going to stop working or something. Our friend Bill 'valet parked' the truck for me. We had a nice gathering for the hamburger and hot dog cookout. Everyone brought a side dish and Cokes and such to share. After eating our Pastor led us in remembering why we remember the ones who gave their all for us and we sang three patriotic songs where the emphasis is on God's hand in founding and formation of America. We even had a family join the church right there on top of the hill underneath the picnic shelter.  As Roy remained to help with clean up and then to take pictures and I went down to choir practice I got to meet Marie, who by the way makes some of the best deviled eggs I have ever eaten, who I knew only by face. We knew of each other through our mutual good friend Inez.

Next week is homecoming at church. I missed last year. The work at the parsonage is done and we are dedicating it for kingdom work. It is a really nice home. Lots of churches up here have homecoming Sundays but it is something I've not experienced with churches in Houston. Our class and the men's class are in charge of food and we are doing a brunch instead of a luncheon afterward. We are running out of room because our fellowship hall can't hold that many people. A couple of Sunday nights ago, I drove through the cemetery of Mountain View Baptist Church which is close by. They had their decoration Sunday and all the graves have flowers on them. It is a beautiful sight to behold.

I hear of many who move up here and never find their way or place. Generally, people around here are friendly and you can have some of the most interesting conversations. Finding and experiencing Newfound was such a divine appointment thing. I am so thankful for our church. Is it perfect? No, but what church is? A couple of Sundays ago while driving into the parking lot I got quite the workout from waving to friends. Last year Roy and I went to the cookout and knew only a few but this year we knew so many more and we look forward to meeting those we haven't met yet.

Just Having Some Fun

There is something about being up here in the mountains where it is beautiful, with so much to see and experience that one can loose all sense of time. Roy and I just had a conversation where Roy has lost all concept of time and of time passed in just the normal, everyday things that needs to be done. It is frustrating and at the same time it is kind of funny. I think the altitude must have gotten to him.

We actually left eleven minutes early this morning which is a miracle because I am not a morning person. Sometimes it takes me a while to get the motor running. But, I got ready faster than usual so we were out the door heading toward The Farmer's Daughter. Our original plan had been to try out the huge donuts that are made on the weekends but we opted for breakfast at TFD. It was delicious and our server looked so much like our niece Erin. The food is served family style so there is a lot set before you. I stuck with the tried and true breakfast items I liked and that included biscuits. Oh my goodness it was delicious. We then went over to shop at Mountain View with lots of our new best friends. Since Roy does not mind standing in lines, he stood in the meat counter lines and I brought things over to him to put in our basket. My friend Brenda had told me several weeks ago that the Amish bologna was really good. So Roy bought three different kinds. We had ordered a strawberry pie and just for good measure we added bread, cheese, a soft cheese, honey and other things that I can't remember. We also stopped at the produce stand we love on the way to TFD and got a watermelon and some tomatoes. We stopped here and there along our way over to Micaville where an art gallery has been calling my name for several months. The here and there involved photography and Roy was having a great time. We both loved the Ooak Gallery. Oh my, so many wonderful creations made by local artists. There was so much to see and yes, I made a purchase of some very fun things. I bought a mountain man for the house, oh he of bearded wonder.

We returned home tired but after a bit we made our delicious supper of bologna sandwiches and strawberry pie for dessert. We've also snacked on a few peaches. This is the most wonderful time of year, produce stand season.

I took a nap and so hope I will be able to fall asleep tonight.

Friday That Feels Like A Saturday

What a lovely Friday here in the mountains, in a valley on a hill. We had a nice rain shower and the sun has broken through once again. Roy is cutting up strawberries and watching The A Team. Our day began early with a termite inspection that ended up costing us nothing. Seems like termites here are not what we are used to in the Houston area. They mainly treat the ground here and if we wait till the winter to do this preventitive measure, it will not cost as much if they did it right now. Mike the Mower Man stopped by to talk about the railings for the stone stairs and we discovered he does do the work like we need done on the slope near the road that has weeds, trees and whatever else growing again. Roy was estatic not to have to weed eat today. Thus, freeing him up to cut strawberries or something. We moved the swing stand to the back deck, finished up tearing cardboard to recycle and then headed out for errands. We stopped for lunch in the midst of errand running. On our way home we decided to stop at this little ice cream shop that looks like the 1950's on the outside. I got a cone and Roy a milkshake. Very nice reward for a day's work.

I keep thinking of the hundreds of reasons why we love this area. This week I have had delightful conversations with complete strangers. On Wednesday, Vivian and I went to Valle Crucis and the surrounding area. We stopped for lunch at The Italian Restaurant in Newland. Oh my, delicios food and we encountered an older couple with a special needs adult child. We chatted away like old friends. Earlier in the week while choosing a cantelope, a lady who was doing the same thing handed me a cantelope and told me it was a good one. I insisted she keep it for purchase but she had retired from the grocery business and owning produce stands, she knew her fruit. I always smell them but she showed me a few other tricks of the trade when it comes to cantelope purchasing.

Roy and I had a quick lunch at The Moose Cafe yesterday. Always a good thing to stop for some veggies for me and a burger for him. We stopped at the peach orchard on our way and got some of the first South Carolina peaches of the season. Roy has already had some but I think they need another day to soften up. We stopped by to see our friends Inez and Cumin and made a peach delivery. We brought peaches to Bill and Vivian when we went to their house for dinner last night. I do believe produce stand season has begun.

We have made our plans for tomorrow and they are feeling fun. Oh yes, and getting all our chores done. Roy cleaned the water filter for the well today so just a few more have to dos like changing the batteries in smoke alarms and changing out the air filters.

Broad Brushstrokes of Thought

The evaporation rate of water here is phenomenally quick. We have a week with continuous light rain and today after a day or so the flowers out back and on the front porch are dry, dry...parched. One of the first chores of the morning after putting feed in the feeders and water in the birdbaths is to get these plants watered. I also watered the patch where I put all that seed and sparkles dictate when to water...which I don't know if I have seen a sparkle or not and I think there might be a few little sprouts. I will have to wait and see if the sprouts develops into beautiful flowers or if it is just another weed. Some of the weeds around here are downright beautiful but the goal is to keep things maintained where vermin and snakes either can't find sanctuary or dinner. While outside working I put out another round of Round Up on the weeds I can reach.

I love the publicity the Chewbacca Mom is getting. She has been on GMA and Kohl's gave her gift cards and points. There aren't any Chewbacca masks to be found on any online retailer. Just because she posted a video of her joy over finding the mask. Her infectious laughter is just that, infectious. After months and months of reading umpteen million blogs, Tweets, Instagram and Facebook posts by people doing all the "right things" to have a platform or a tribe or publicity and those who push the "how to" side of being discovered...in all simplicity, with no fore-thought of fame...boom, the mom with the infectious laugh is blowing up the Internet and probably the hopes and designs of millions hoofing it for fame and attention. Several months ago I signed up for what I thought would be one email on being a better devo writer. I do not have aspirations of writing devotionals, it was merely a selfish thing for better writing and composition for journaling.  I need to unsubscribe because the emails are filling up the inbox by this author who wants to help me to achieve it all and if I will just pay a one time fee I have access to all the knowledge, podcasts and videos in the collection...no, thank you, it was just a whim of being a better journal-er.

When I was young I could have gone the way of self promotion because I inherited the gift of salesmanship from my father. It is a gift that I returned because that isn't who I wanted to be. Oh my goodness, the constant push to use whatever to get the brand out there. I know it needs to be done to be successful but it would wear me out I think. I don't see it energizing me or those who I am trying to meet, greet, encourage or whatever. In college I started as a communications major only because I didn't know what else to do. In high school I had some success with drama and speech tournaments...so there ya go. Now if I had known this was also in the business school in college, it might have been a whole other story.

You might say, well you write a blog...yep I do and I write because it is difficult for me to journal fun and happy and funny things.I'm thinking if it made me laugh maybe writing it on a blog is making others laugh. Who knows why?  So on the blog, it is like a journal of sorts and I am glad when people enjoy the writing, but I am mainly writing for me to remember stuff that can be lost in the minutia of ordinary days. At the end of the year I have that year's posts printed so it is in book form. I don't think I ever want to view people as a vehicle to drive my product and I am not thinking of friends who represent jewelry or makeup and stuff like that. I am mainly thinking in ministry terms... It would be no better than Campus Crusaders or whatever the name is now who view each new person they meet as a potential donor to the cause or come back to those they have already approached and re-dun them again. I seem to choose Campus Crusade because of experiences with the organization since I was in high school. Whether you are pushing a ministry or a blog or a book or whatever, if we become self absorbed in those pursuits, we don't always know what is going on with the people that we see as a conduit to help us achieve our goals and desires.

These are broad brushstrokes of thought. I just think it is ironic that sometimes a little surprise comes from just being and not being so intentional to get our name out there.

I better get back to my chores. Now I need to get the wasp traps ready and maybe, just maybe sitting on the front porch can be stinger free.

Cows, Crows, Chickens, Carpenter Bee and Ruth...I'm Not That Good of a Baptist...Alliteration Thing

Yesterday, I saw the most uncanny happening with the cows across the road. The herd was gathered in a tight grouping. With the exception of one or two they were all together in close proximity. The other two were not too distant from the group. Their tails swished back in forth in perfect timing, together and they began grazing at a rapid pace coming from the top of the hill over to the fence line and along the fence line till they were out of view. I put on my socks and tennis shoes and looked out the window and those cows had moved on down the pasture.    I have never seen anything like it. It had an eerie feeling to it, like they knew something...we had rain in the area but nothing in the way of big storms. I gazed at the sky thinking, this could be it...the moment we have all been waiting for, the return of Christ.   I think it was the rhythmic movement of their tails and the rapid pace that  gave me that feeling of eerie and then awe. Of course I went to Google and I didn't really find a definitive answer. It could have been something that scared them or it could be the owner had removed older calfs away from their mothers since babies are now being born. I watched this phenomenon from an upstairs window. Later in the day I looked to see if the cows were still in formation. No, they were scattered across the pasture, like usual. You can lose a lot of time by watching nature around here, so I have kept my cow observing to a minimum today but at last look they are gathered around the hay feeder lying on the ground...which usually means rain, but there is very little in the forecast.

I also saw mockingbirds take on a crow. They were diving and attaching the crow in the air. It was better than an airshow with planes. I noticed a baby bird had dropped out of a nest yesterday and the hard landing on asphalt did the baby in. That mama and daddy mockingbird sat on the wires above the bird loudly calling and chirping. Michael the two eyed cat when to investigate and he too was dive bombed and thwarted from any investigation. He was out there with me while I sprayed Round Up on weeds and did some weed pulling. I cannot believe how quickly weeds and such grow. So far the wild flower seed I threw out onto the dirt has done nothing...I followed all the directions but I'm not too sure on the sparkle instructions of watering.
********************************************************************************
Good Monday Morning! I just finished my delicious breakfast of farm fresh eggs given to me last night. Vivian went to her Aunt Jenny's and she has chickens. So not only did I come home spiritually enriched from choir practice but I came home egg enriched...a dozen of them to be specific.

Yesterday I went to Sunday School but I had restless feet and tired eyes...so I played sabbatical from big church. I didn't have it in me to sit still that long. A little Sunday morning drive with the CD People of the Church playing in the background and then a quick stop at the grocery store. I came home, ate lunch and took a much needed nap. Last night the altos found out in choir that there was no not one alto in the loft Sunday morning. They called one up during prayer time from the congregation and several sopranos filled in for some alto notes. We were back four strong for choir practice. Well, three strong, I'm not exactly a strong alto.

The new carpenter bee trap is working. There is one in the trap this morning.

Yesterday our Sunday School lesson was on Ruth. We watched a video of the story. All good except they didn't show Ruth at the feet of Boaz on the threshing floor. We decided that might have been considered PG 13 or something. When I read my lesson on Saturday and then while watching the video I realized there were some things that Ruth and I had in common...not many, but some. OK, I didn't follow my m-i-l but I came to a land where I only knew a few and depended on the kindness of those living here. They have taken me in as one of their own, which I cannot tell you how much that means to me. No, I haven't been in the fields gleaning or bringing in the sheaves but I have gleaned so much from friends here in how do live life, have fun and be a good steward of what God has given. Already have a Boaz, celebrating 39 years in September and if I laid down on a floor, whether it be threshing or kitchen...getting back up to an upright position would be an issue. But I know that my life surely has been redeemed by coming to live in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I'm so thankful!

Another This and That Post

The view after a light rain from the upstairs front bedroom is a reward. The clouds lie low on the mountains and the trees and grass are a brighter green from the rain. Especially beautiful when looking through the window decorated rain drops. Heavier rain is expected later in the afternoon. Today the rain is coming from a more south eastern direction. Many times the rain comes from the west. I am learning the weather patterns better this year. I think we have experienced more rain this year in the spring than last year. It was a pretty dry year and almost everyday bursting with sunshine.

It is now Saturday morning and after an overcast, cold day the sun's warmth is welcomed. Although I do like me an overcast day. I almost turned on the fireplace last night because it felt more like a fall going into winter feel. It was one of those totally ensconced feelings and after getting so much done yesterday I was ready for some couch time.

Yesterday held a burst of energy and it has been a while since I have felt that good. I took care of those lingering projects that I have put off for a long time, some of them a little over a year old. Finally there are pictures hung over both of the twin beds. The carpenter bee trap is out on the front porch.

Last night I watched a few old Happy Goodman videos on You Tube. Someone had posted one on FB and that got me looking into finding a few more of my mom's favorites to watch. After watching a few, with some tears shed, I Googled to find more info about them and their resurgence with the Homecoming Tour. There was an interesting article about Mark Lowery and the time he took off from the GVB years ago. He was suffering burnout and he spent a year living on a houseboat.

On FB I have discovered Traveler On the Backroads, Mike Traveler. He is an author and poet. He usually puts his poems with some beautiful pictures on the road less traveled. I have fallen in love with this poem

Listen
and you will hear

the sound of the rain on the leaves
a bird calling to its mate
the wind brushing its fingers through the trees
a bee buzzing from flower to flower

your heart beating in your chest
your soul running through the woods
a million miracles all around you

and a still quiet voice
whispering ever so softly,
I made this for you

Enjoy this beautiful Saturday!

Location...It's A Theme

Cleaning out the junk file in email I saw a listing for a house in our area. I pass by it several times a week if it is a week of going into or toward Asheville. It is a typical type of home like you find around here, located on over an acre of land, withe beautiful long range mountain views, big front porch, and a nice deck on the back of the house. The inside of the house is nicely done. Oh it would need a few aesthetic upgrades yet it could be considered move in ready. The price of the house has been lowered. Sounds great doesn't it? It is reasonably priced and bonus, finished out basement with kitchenette.... The only thing...this house is on a road that has a quarry and asphalt plant...all day long the dump trucks are coming and going, roaring diesel motors breaking the mountain quiet. When we were on our house quest I had fallen in love with a particular home...I watched Zillow daily to see if there were any changes of its status. Two times the price was lowered and I was so anxious to get here and see the home. Disappointment raged when I finally was able to do a drive by of the home, with a great floor plan and long range mountain views...because this home was located on the road that the Buncombe County land fill is found. The house is about nine miles away, up hill but all day long, the rumbling garbage trucks would rattle and break the mountain quiet. Truly when it comes to real estate it is location, location, location.

It has been a few days since I last blogged but that doesn't mean I haven't been writing. I love my new iPad Pro for being able to easily take it with me and write just about anywhere or location but not location, location, location. On Wednesday I found myself in the Biltmore Village area because I had a hair appointment at noon. I went a little early to have a late breakfast at the Corner Kitchen and then walked around the village, stopping in a few places. I purposely kept myself away from the Origami Ink store because I could spend a lot of money in there. The same could be said for Mountain Merch, but I have more control over t-shirt and sweatshirt purchasing. After my appointment I made a Target run...Yes, Target. First thing though, I took care of bathroom needs before entering the store. I had $100 in gift cards, so it is money already spent prior to all the ruckus. Also, I haven't vowed or signed a petition. And if you do any investigating on policies, there are a lot of places you can't shop or use services if you are going to be true to the boycott. It was rather nice shopping in less than crowded conditions. I also stopped at Whole Foods to pick up a few things. I arrived home good and tired from a full day. So what better thing to do than move a bookcase upstairs to the bonus room complete with several trips of book relocating. The bookcase was a snap, it was moving all the books....  My little corner of the bonus room looks so cute with new picture and the added bookcase. This freed up space in the dining room to rearrange the room.

I am so thankful that the People of the Church concert was on the webcast Wednesday night. I loved being involved with the worship experience, right there in our home via the internet. My soul refreshed and renewed.

Yesterday, I met a friend from Houston, Bonnie, who is traveling with her husband while he is on business here. We had a wonderful time. We met in Waynesville and had lunch and did a little shopping. She decided she wanted to explore more of downtown Waynesville, so we said our goodbyes and we are looking forward to her next visit here. I began the beautiful drive home with a little rain mix happening in spots. There is an antique/craft/furniture store nearby our home and it had been a while since I had stopped in to see Penny. She has an end table there that I would love to bring home but there is no room or place to use it. That usually doesn't stop me from purchasing but I hope someone else buys it and enjoys it. She has a new artist bringing in photographs done on canvas of houses, things and landscapes of our area. Now three of those pictures came home with me. I love the work this artist does. I hadn't planned on this stop because I was tired but it was one of those things I felt compelled to do....not to buy anything but just to spend some time and visit with a friend. Penny in our conversation wondered why anyone would want to move here especially from her viewpoint of growing up and living here all of her life. I responded location! Picture perfect scenery, friendly people, spring time...fall! Produce stands! That's why...simpler life, slower pace. Location, location, location!

Such wonderful news in my inbox this morning! The Deep South summer reading list is out. I began reading through the thirty four choices recommended and there looks to be a number of books that I want to read. Many times on their reading lists, and they do a fall/winter list as well, only a few books garner my attention. I am such a nerd, I get so excited when I have a stack of books near a chair or the bed that need to be read. And they are southern....it looks to be a good reading summer ahead. I mean really, I already have a great stack of TBR books and it is only going to get better. I see myself reading in my little corner surrounded by books...what a location! Wait a minute? What am I doing downstairs, I must go to my location, location, location.

A Day Trip Report

Karma. I rarely if ever used this word before, it is not even on a regular rotation of words that sometimes need to be used in a sentence but since we live near Asheville I'm sure the word is used there often, I decided to use it today to describe what I saw yesterday. So when we last left the bunny rabbit in residence in Josh's yard, it was not dead, it is moving about but only in this designated area of the yard. When I left to be gone most of the day yesterday, I stopped on our road to do a visual of bunny. Upon returning in the late afternoon, yes there was bunny in Josh's yard but in our yard, near one of the plumb trees lies a dead crow and Michael, the one eyed cat, nearby under one of the huge fir trees. Boom, the term karma hit my brain. How unlikely for Michael to catch and kill anything, especially a crow because they are smart and they are fast. Unlike the little gold finch I buried last year when it had the unfortunate run in with the bay window, I am letting the ants take care of this for me. Mainly, because I cannot get to it safely and I really don't want to get that close to a crow whether dead or alive.

It is a morning of light rain and it is also a major easing into the day kind of day. I finally made my long planned and anticipated trip into Waynesville yesterday. The day beautiful so I hit the road. The trip to Waynesville is one of my favorite drives. All along the road, fields and smaller personal gardens are being cleared and tilled. I saw many an older woman out there in the garden planting seed, the way I would do...cause our knees don't bend. Low clouds clung to some of the mountains making that iconic Blue Ridge view of mountains in silhouette. My start was about thirty minutes later than planned and with the addition of stopping to fill up the truck, I decided to go to West Waynesville and begin there. That way I worked my way into the town and there is likely a better chance of finding close parking later in the day. It was a good plan.

First stop Belk's. Now this is going to sound funny coming from a Houston gal, who at one time spent many a day in the Galleria's biggest stores, but the Belk's at the Asheville Mall is just too big for me. I like the smaller one in Waynesville. Roy is in need of some new broad cloth dress shirts, so that was my mission except I did make an extended foray into the women's department. Hey, why not? I found exactly what I had been looking for and then I made my way to the back of the store where the men's department is located. Well really, I did all an all around perusal and then grabbed a cart to make selections for purchase. Next door to Belk's is Michael's. Now if the world felt slightly off kilter...it was due to the fact that I went into a craft store. I was looking for something in particular and found it. So it was time to leave West Waynesville behind and move over to the Hazelwood area where my first stop was for lunch. After being fortified with a fried green tomato BLT, I went to Robin Blu. It has been probably six months since I have been there. The Blu did not disappoint. Since I had stocked up on coffee at The Fresh Market I did not stop at Smokey Mountain Roasters...tempting yes.

I made my way into downtown Waynesville with the first stop being at Blue Ridge Books. They have opened a used book section and I had some books to contribute to them. I also picked up a few local author's books that I had read about from the bookstore's newsletter. The parking plan worked, I found a close place near Mast General Store. That is such a fun store but I came out of there not buying a thing. Massie's next door has carpenter bee catchers, so I picked up one and then went to the artist gallery a little further down, T Pennington. When I was there several months ago I found a collage of her pictures that would look good in the bonus room. I was unsure about the measurements and decided not to buy that day. Well, it wasn't there but she did have another one, of the same collage of pics in a smaller, read less expensive, framing that works even better than the first one. So, it came home with me too.

It takes about forty minutes to get back home from Waynesville, so I got back home with little time to spare before I needed to get back out and over to church for an Embrace Women's Ministry meeting. We got out a little early but got so much accomplished. I totally misunderstood our assignment from last time...I R not that smart but forgiveness was given and totally accepted by me. Thankful for grace.

So now I must be about my work of cleaning the house, then I need to go check on a friend's cat while they are out of town.

Still Learning

There is so much for this city girl to learn out here in the country. Google comes in handy many a day. Just like I heard last week at Erin's graduation, keep on learning, never stop.

Last night I waited too late to wash the blanket on our bed. I had washed the bedspread earlier but instead of putting the blanket setting on bulky bedding I left it on the normal cycle. What should have taken 54 minutes went much longer than that. I think the blanket was too heavy for the setting and it was being rinsed and spun multiple times. I finally caught the cycle after the spin and before it could add water. The blanket wasn't dripping wet but more saturated than usual. Into the dryer and I stayed up a little later...I knew I would need to take the blanket out and yes in true redneck form, I used the stair banister and overhang to spread out that blanket overnight to help it dry. Since I had just taken the comforter off the bed, I pulled it back into our bedroom and put it on top of the bedspread and decided to make the best of it. You know my idea of roughing it is a slow bell boy. Yes, I could have slept in another bed but didn't want to mess with that. Now you would think this little change of where the comforter is located wouldn't make a difference but oh contrare my friends. Buddy hated the change. From about 2:00 am to 5:00 am I barely slept. She was up and down and meowing and I began that count down, the only time I do math, of how many hours would I be able to sleep if I fell asleep right then and there. It was tough. Buddy came back around 4:45, laid on my arm and then shot up sitting straight and on point...she left the bed going about 100 mph. Well, that got my attention cause I am thinking that maybe she is onto something. There was nothing...she just had the yips. So I got the comforter, dragged it to the man cave, turned on I Love Lucy and tried to sleep until 7:30. I was exhausted and gave thought to leaving right after Sunday School but I stayed the course but church went long. I got to my car in the parking lot at 12:45. No I don't attend a charismatic church. I drove home, came into the house and took a nap.

After some rest, a trip to the grocery store was in order. I had just happened to look out the window and watched a bunny rabbit chase a crow. I had never seen anything like that. I watched the rabbit for a bit and I could tell it was a mama rabbit protecting her babies. She stayed alert and on patrol, in fact she was still on patrol when I returned from the grocery store. I thought the baby was hurt or dead. I cried on the way to Ingle's. After getting all the groceries put away, I got the binoculars and watched the bunny rabbit. Roy suggested I go and try to help the rabbit and I responded that my presence anywhere near the rabbit would not be good for it or for me. That rabbit might chase me and I don't want to break another hip. You know hippity hopping. What a great story, I was being chased by a rabbit...not Bugs Bunny but...and not little Bunny Foo Foo. We watch a few animal videos on FB and we think we will become Dr Doolittle and talk with the animals. Just a bit ago, I looked out the window and the mama rabbit was no where to be seen which my conclusion was, the little baby bunny finally passed on to that great carrot patch in the sky. Then I saw a little bit of movement...some little ears, the baby bunnies are alive and well. That mama rabbit has made her nest in a deep part of the yard, with tall grass as cover. In the midst of all this I had Googled why would a rabbit chase a crow and found out all types of useful information.

In my groggy haze this morning I thought about that little change of blanket arrangements and how it affected things. Life can have that same effect with little changes here and there, that doesn't mean a thing but is bothersome. It made me think about last year when scores and scores of birds visited the backyard feeder and birdbath and birds still come but not like last year. I am thinking...I want it to be like last year bird-wise. The thought occurred to me though that this year I hear the birds more than I did last year. They are still here but having Michael the one eyed cat hanging around during the day would put the cabash on seeing the birds. Last year I bought way more strawberries than I have this year. I froze way too many last year and I know this year I would rather use the freezer space for peaches when they come in season. I still can't believe it that we live here, that we experience post card worthy scenery everyday.
*********************************************************************************
As of this morning, I don't think little bunny made it. There is a little brown mound in my neighbor's yard where the bunny didn't venture too far from yesterday. Right before I left for choir I shouted and clapped to scare off the crow. I since learned in choir that clapping your hands real loud makes crows think it is a gunshot.

I am going to get out and about today. Such a beautiful day to enjoy these mountains...I ain't going to climb no mountain, just drive through them and enjoy.

Saturdaying

I'm enjoying a morning ritual that will be a ritual until Buddy changes it. She stays busy with whatever she stays busy with until I sit down with my cup of coffee in the living room. She makes her way over to me and sits on my lap for a little bit. She meows and wants to be petted. This makes a great start to the morning but knowing Buddy this little ritual will turn into another schedule later. I am enjoying it while I can.

Yesterday was a gardening day in slow motion. I planted the snap dragons and the other red flowers that I don't remember their name in the red wagon planter. Then I rearranged a few other flowers and put out the hanging baskets and solar mason jars on the front porch. In the midst of the work I remembered I needed to get to Tractor Supply to pick up a few more garden items. So with dirt on my shirt and capris, hardly any makeup and pretty much messed up hair, I started for TS...only I had forgotten there was a bike race happening at that end of the route. Going, I got ahead of the racers but knew coming back I would be stuck in lots of traffic...I remember from last year after getting stuck in it. So after TS I made my way to The Fresh Market, then went home via the Craggy Bridge and the back way. I must have looked like I had come straight out of the mountains to some at Fresh Market, well I had. It definitely has the Yankee transplant feel there. I should have told them I was there for my suuu-plies. Later in the afternoon when Aaron our UPS driver stopped in with a couple of packages, he told me about getting delayed in the traffic from the bike race and it was putting him behind on deliveries. Glad I opted for the longer but scenic route.

When I drove up the road and began backing into our driveway, Michael, the one eyed cat, was chasing a chipmunk. From one side of the drive to the other the cat and chipmunk dance made them blind to the fact a huge pickup truck was making its descent. They moved their pursuit to the side with the ground cover and I hurriedly got SequishShaun  into the garage with the door coming down as quickly as possible. I did not need a cat and chipmunk wrecking havoc in the garage. I checked on them later through the window and they were still at it although I think both were growing tired. When I finally deemed it safe to open the garage and continue gardening, I checked for any little gifts from Michael. None! I really don't like the chipmunks but they are cute.

I love watching the cows across the way. There are some men working in the barn but it must be men they don't recognize because when the guy comes on the four wheeler they run to meet him. The cows are content to be grazing on the side of the hill. There are a lot of little calfs in a group with the mom cows circling them in an unofficial type of way. The winds are supposed to pick up this afternoon with a cold front skirting the area...no freezing temps but tomorrow it is only to be in the mid 60's. I just took the warm comforter off the bed, but we should be fine.

The washer just stopped so I need to go put the bedspread into the dryer. This is the first bulky item I have washed in the new machine. Not off kilter one time.

Simplicity of Life

I think we have seen the last of the rain for today. The sun is now brightly showering us brightly with its beams. We had a few rumblings of thunder with the rain this week but nothing scary or too close for comfort. We had a couple of mornings which are few and far between of light rain...Rain around here seems to fall mainly in the afternoons and evenings or that has been my experience in the last year of living here. Last year we experienced drought.

On Tuesday I spent some time writing yesterday and when I felt I needed a break, a trip over to Zips car wash did the trick for bug removal from the weekend's trip to Chattanooga. I also went to Ace Hardware because I knew I could find help there with a hose situation in our backyard. Neither one of the hoses will thread onto the faucet. Went to Google for help and there wasn't too much information. The faucet is rather close to the outside of the house, so I got an extender and that worked like a charm. Both hoses work now but the watering wand didn't fare so well in the winter elements. So we will need to get a new one. Stopped at Lowe's for potting soil and a few plants and ended the lovely portion of the excursion part of the day with a quick trip into Walmart.

When I arrived home I noticed I had missed a call from one of the happy travelers from Dayspring Life Bible Study...better known as Sunday School. I was just about to call when Marilyn called again. She and her friends were out here in our area. They were kind of lost but they were really just around the block from our home. Now out here around the block mean several miles. She and Vera had brought two friends with them from Pennsylvania that might retire somewhere around WNC. They are looking for rural, land and community near a city. Maybe a log cabin kind of thing...I shared with them info about our area but added my sense of community came from our church. We know our neighbors and visit with them, but we don't BBQ together. I suggested somewhere close to Weaverville. I also encouraged them to start up conversations with people and you can learn very quickly where you might like to live and the places to avoid. I so wanted to volunteer that maybe a log cabin wasn't the best route to go. They require so much maintenance and every seven years they need a major resealing job. That's why there were so many log cabins built in 2007 on the market when we were looking for a home up here in 2014.

On Tuesday I bought some solar lights in mason jars and yesterday I made the return trip to pick up several more. It dawned on me that I hadn't eaten Mexican food in a while, so before getting the jars I stopped in for some nachos and guacamole at the place next to Ace. The guac was good but the nachos were so so. Also made another stop at Lowe's. They had more plants to choose from and I found zinnias which are some of my favorite flowers to have in flower beds. Because it had been a while I also stopped in at Dollar General. I am not a regular dollar store kind of gal but I like to walk around and look. Since I am nearly out of bread and they had the brand I like, I got a loaf and some sugar free hard candies.

When I got home it rained a bit and I was able to enjoy some porch time until the wasps started hanging around. I am getting good at spraying them while I stand inside the house behind the screen door. I spray through a slight opening of the door. I also brought down a table which could also be used as a planter from Roy's man cave. It just wasn't working up there like I had envisioned. So I slid it down the stairs and then out the back door onto the deck where it will be used as a planter. I worked around the deck on Wednesday afternoon, rearranging a few things to make better use of the space and an easier way to water things when the rain isn't doing its job.

I talked with Nancy, s-i-l, yesterday. Erin has gone on a cruise to the Bahamas with friends to celebrate the end of college. Her roommate situation is finalized for Houston, they just now need a to find an apartment or place to live. Nancy has done a fine job in raising Megan and Erin. It is hard to believe they have both moved into adulthood with jobs and responsibilities because it seems like they were just kiddos coming to spend some time in the summer with us and going to tennis camp.

Every morning this week I have considered going over to Waynesville and every morning I have talked myself out of it. There are a couple of things I need from a few of the stores there but nothing like it won't wait a bit. These are very contended days for me enjoying the simplicity of life.

Pay Back Time...So What Cha Going To Do?

This is how politically astute and current event relevant I am...when I read that Loretta Lynch was responding to the HB2 dealy here in NC, I thought why is Hot Lips from MASH filing a lawsuit against NC? Shouldn't someone else be responsible for that? Then I realized I had confused Loretta Swit with Loretta Lynch but I did not confuse Loretta Lynn with them.

Everyone has their opinion on the current political situation. Some are not going to vote, some are going to write in a candidate. Some will vote for the lesser of two evils. Many will vote who think their candidate deserves their vote and their confidence that he or she will get the job done. The old guard in the R party are really upset and pretty much are responding like we all can do when we don't get our way, we take our ball and go home. The D party is presenting two old white people to vote for. Wow, one would think there would be up and coming candidates in both parties.

So here is what I think, all the backlash against Christians and against moral law abiding citizens...we shouldn't be surprised because this plays out everyday in some minute form. Everyday some where, some place, a person who has been made to feel insignificant or dumb in the workplace rises to a place of leadership and many times, more often than not, the person doesn't practice what they wish those in authority over them had practiced, no...they act just like the people they didn't care for, cause it's payback time baby and somebody else is going to have to deal with the brunt of anger from the past. My father was treated horribly as a child and growing up for him was a painful experience, He wasn't a planned child and his mother was finished, so she thought, in the baby birthing business. So, there are stories coming around now that as a child he acted out toward his peers like he was being treated or ignored at home. As an adult he perfected the meanness and hate when you'd think he might want to do things differently...since that whole childhood thing worked out so well for him. I saw as an adult what I had suspected all along as a kid one year at camp when the only choice for best camper was a nerdy kid and there was much discussion about trying to give it to one of the popular kids but several made the point it would be so obvious that it had always been about a popularity contest instead of service if the nerdy kid didn't get the award. That pretty much killed that award in the future...ah yes, Revenge of the Nerds!

So when we feel we have been oppressed by someone or an organization for so long, of course the natural human thing is pay back. Now we are going to change the rules to our liking and to your determent. We are going to do to you what you did to us! So, that is what is going on now. Those who see the swing in their direction are drooling for the establishment to get theirs. Or we are going to make America great again and I will be a part of that...so those who have taken from me are going to get theirs. See, it is just such a childish reaction. Even with Ted he couldn't go the establishment of the GOP way, so he came back to Texas and got involved in the anti-establishment, the Tea Party. He moved up the ranks, punishing those stalwarts of the R party and turning the tables on what he thought was done to him. Of course I read that no one likes him in Washington. So maybe it didn't matter what he did.

Let's face it, America is in a mess and there is much fault finding and finger pointing but we let it get to this point. Now other nations who have been tired of being bossed around by us are waiting for payback, for us to get ours...what is coming to us. I hope that doesn't happen, I hope something good can come out of all this. Maybe we can be reasonable people again but I kind of doubt it.

You know maybe I would have been better off if I hadn't found out that it wasn't Hot Lips, Loretta Swit, bringing the lawsuit. I could go silently on in my ignorance...of course that isn't the answer, but at this point what ya going to do? As for me, I am going to go take care of a gallon of strawberries that Inez so kindly brought back to me from South Carolina.

Conversations With Peggy and Other Stuff

The day has not gone as I had planned and you know, that is just fine with me. I have not accomplished anything on my to do list except for washing jeans and capris. As of this writing, I have not gone upstairs to put them in the dryer. Meh, I will do that sooner than later. Oh and I made the much needed trip to the PO to mail a couple of bills, yes, I am still old fashioned on receiving certain bills and returning said payment via pony express. And yes, I pay some bills online but now, once again I have digressed. I was writing about the day. The day did begin as an easing into the day kind of thing but then it went into the afternoon but for a very good reason. Peggy, aka Gertrude...aka Gerti called. We hadn't talked in a couple of weeks and we needed to catch up, more than the gratuitous Facebook scan. I think we were on the phone for an hour and a half. Neither one of us are usually long phone talkers but when both of us suffer or rather sometimes enjoy ADD, we had to finish up conversations we began and left unfinished and there were a couple of words, simple words, that both of us were trying to use conversationally, but we couldn't remember them...until later, way past the subject matter we were discussing. Then we needed our junior high school humor to come out for a bit and we laughed until our sides ached. If that hadn't been enough, we continued down that sophomoric humor lane a little longer. There is so much that I love about our conversations. I don't feel rushed, you know sometimes you are talking with someone on the phone and they have told you their concerns and stories and when you begin to talk about your concerns and stories...you can feel it... they want to get off the phone...you sense the impatience that telephone time has run its course, on their schedule and it is time to say goodbye. Those kind of calls are irritating. Sometimes if I feel like I need a challenge or it is going to amuse me, I intentionally ignore the under the breath huffs and puffs and just keep on. Surely it is not because my subject matter is boring?

After we got off the phone and I had cleaned up, the phone rang again, only this time it was Roy. He had another important update on the dehumidifier he had purchased over the weekend. Yes,it is as interesting as it sounds. But I am so glad he gives attention to those kinds of details.

Michael, the one eyed cat, has been hanging around here more lately. I am glad he feels at home but he does deter bird feeder watching. He naps under some shrubs in the back and I think he might spend some nights on our front porch or underneath the trees in front of the garage. I changed cat food brands and he seems to like that much better than what I have purchased before. So this afternoon I have a cat asleep in the house and in the backyard. Michael started pawing at a wasp and I watched powerless to do anything if the wasp decided to attach and fortuneteller, the wasp kept on about its wasp business of generally being a pain to all living creatures.
********************************************************************************
If there are asterisks in a post, it must be a new day and why yes, it is. Mike the Mower Man has found the trees we are going to use in the back cheaper at Lowe's, a little shorter too, but that's okay. In the cool early evening I went out back to check on the new plants as well as to scout out where I am going to put these things. I also spent a vast amount of time trying to attack the hose to the faucet and nothing was working. So maybe a trip to Ace Hardware might be in order. It is easier to find someone to help you there than Lowe's many times. When I came inside I had a feeling a little ant might be crawling on my neck and sure enough, it was and then it wasn't. I don't have good reactions to ant bites but these aren't fire ants, so they aren't prone to bite at the first inclination.

While in the Chattanooga Barnes and Noble I found an anniversary edition of Breakfast at Tiffany's. I like the style of Truman Capote's writing. I have been reading some of his early stories and I read In Cold Blood a long time ago and don't think I want to re-visit that book anytime soon.

This weekend both at the pinning ceremony and at commencement a main theme of anyone who had an opportunity to speak was, always keep learning. There were other fine and encouraging words but I zoned out. This is why I was never a good student, lack of attention or at least the attention span of a gnat. I think maybe someone said, love what you do but after that it all sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher waa waa whaa whaa.  But really, keep on learning is good advice, although I don't know of anyone who has ever said, that's it! I've learned all I need to know. Maybe it is like saying keep breathing, which there are times that needs to be said in crisis, but not all the time in everyday life. You just seem to breathe without any prompting. The other day I read a post on my high school site written by a man who was cooler than cool back in the day. He wrote he wished he had learned how to pay bills, not extend himself on credit too much, how to choose a mortgage, appliances etc...instead of mathematical formulas that he has never used in high school. Guess he didn't quit learning, he just dropped all the stuff that he didn't need. It has been a joy to move here...to NC...and not just for the obvious reasons but for the opportunity to learn new things and to hear the history of the area. I still don't know half the roads on traffic reports and I am trying to learn the mountain names when I gaze across the terrain from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Attention! Houston Will Soon Have a New Nurse in Residence

We had such a fun weekend celebrating Erin, my niece, graduating from college with a BSN. I left Friday morning taking the back way to Chattanooga. That drive no matter what time of year holds such beauty and wonder. The trees haven't turned their dark green summer color yet, so the diverse shades of greens is always a spectacular view. I decided to stay in our regular Holiday Inn Express because of the familiarity of the area and the ease in which we feel there. The staff are always so friendly and from the lobby up everything feels so clean. I arrived and had about an hour to relax and change clothes. I was meeting my brother at his hotel downtown for the pinning ceremony at the Episcopal church very near the UTC campus. There were several wrecks on I 24 and so Tahlula Toyota GPS girl gave me an alternate route which was kind of out of the way yet it was rather quick. Doug and I met everyone at the church for the ceremony. Megan and Nancy had secured a front pew where we could see everything.

Erin looked beautiful, as always, in her graduation gown and cords. It is difficult not to sit there and remember that beautiful woman as a young eight year old girl, running about, with a skanky mall hair extension attached to her own beautiful hair. The fact that she looked to Megan many times to gauge what her reaction should be to surprises or good news as a child. She has an awesome sense of humor, I like to think she got some of that from me, and she loved Lucy as much as I did. I think I also instilled the love of the Nord and a good pedicure to her and to Megan. As it needs to be as she grew up I knew less of her life in high school and college but I knew enough of her to know she was doing good. One of my favorite times was a couple of years ago when Roy couldn't go to the Biltmore and I asked if she would like to join me for the week there. So there she was getting her nurse pin and how appropriate that Nancy, her mom, who is also a nurse, got to pin her. The bonus for me, I now have the International Nurse Pledge which I will take with me to any hospital stay from now on and review it with the nurses, just in case they have forgotten.

Knowing that I have only so much energy, I opted out of the dinner afterwards and headed back to the hotel to relax and enjoy a Domino's Pizza. The hotel was at full capacity with guests attending graduations and there was a large group staying there attending a big wedding. Lots of Texas license plates in the parking lot. They had put me on the fourth floor and at first I wasn't thrilled with that but the front desk lady explained they put all the groups on the bottom three floors and the fourth floor would be quieter. The trouble I anticipated waiting for an elevator never even occurred. I was able to have a leisurely morning because graduation wasn't until 1:00. Once again I met Doug at his hotel and we took Uber over to the arena and that is the way to go. UTC did a fabulous job of getting those graduates across the stage in a timely manner. Showing how times have changed, the graduation times divided the different colleges of study, so health/science and business were the 1:00 with masters and doctorates. Several years ago it would have been business graduates outnumbering the other groups but they only had around 175, whereas health/science had 319. We took pictures afterwards and we went our ways until 5:00 when we met for a celebration dinner. Such fun! An added bonus, I discovered more shops and restaurants that I never knew existed so close to our hotel. Even made a trip to Barnes and Noble after we had dinner. There was also a Home Goods, but I opted for the early night and good parking place at the hotel. Yes, I have gotten old.

Sunday morning I was able to leave around 9:00 and have church on the drive back toward home. Ah, God's creation. I had planned to stop at the Piggly Wiggly in Ducktown but it looked closed. I did stop at a produce stand, one which Roy and I had stopped at previously in years past. We quit going there because the two women who owned it, fought all the time and the chance of a tomato fight breaking out seemed imminent. There must be new ownership because neither of them were around and it was a rather dull stop and purchase. I arrived home around 1:00. There was hardly any traffic and that surprised me because it is the beginning of white water rafting season in the Oocoee and in the Natahala. Buddy was sure happy to see me and I was happy to see her.

Ran to the grocery store in the late afternoon and then texted the girls to see how the skydiving went. That was a present from Doug to them. They sent me the you tube videos. Man, my hands were sweating watching them. They did fabulous!

This Mother's Day seemed a little more poignant to me. Guess it is the fact that both girls are adulting now. It will be harder to see them as they have jobs and commitments. It's like we have traded places, now I am more available with a flexible schedule with long Christmas vacation and summers off. A couple of times I stopped myself before or in mid sentence in conversation with Erin and Megan...remembering those times I have loved but that is it, we have turned a corner. It is as it should be...they have their lives ahead of them. They need and should be with their friends and only occasionally give a shout out to the kooky aunt. My goodness, I am not that ancient that I remember back then it was all about friends. Some adults don't make the turn and they make those around them miserable. It is my vow not to be one of those kinds of relatives. Don't get me wrong, I will be there if they need me. Roy and I are so proud of the women these two have become. So I had that moment combined with thinking of my mom and how much I miss her. There isn't a day that goes by without a thought of her especially here in the spring time. Right before I left on Friday a brilliant flash of red landed in the butterfly tree-looked in the window at me, flapped his wings and he was off. I have heard of those who believe a cardinal is a visit from someone in heaven, so I like to think that was a visit from mom. Then on my way home I stopped at the rest stop in Andrews. It is so beautifully landscaped and a creek runs behind it. I walked to the back of the deck and there sat a beautiful red cardinal. Yep, I will take it! A little visit from mom whether it is true or not, it's a lovely thing to see.

Enjoying the Time

I'm on retainer this morning helping Roy with a project, so in between emails and calls I thought I would come over to the good old blog and write. I think my work is just about done and I have lunch with a friend on schedule today.

Well as the old song says, there's got to be a morning after... So Ted Cruz suspended his campaign last night, Donald Trump looks like the Republican nominee most likely running against Hillary. Which by all the Twitter accounts and polls this morning has a thirteen point lead over Trump. Reading tweets last night was rather amusing as the faithful proclaimed doom and gloom, the sarcastic were at their finest and worthy quotes were strewn about like seed being thrown to the ground. This morning the magnitude isn't as overwhelming or as entertaining on social media. Ted Cruz is a member of our former church in Houston and I've wondered this morning if airline reservations have been cancelled for the anticipated trip to DC in January by many of the staff counting on a win.  Maybe just maybe this is all falling into place for the return of Christ... In all things, shouldn't we be giving thanks instead of predicting the future or trying to predict? This morning I am thinking of the well known and quoted verse, trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. I have never really understood how evangelical, for lack of a better term, Christians, latch onto these Republicans who run for the highest office in the land and yet have many, many skeletons in their closet or maybe like those of us who voted for Jimmy Carter in a show of unity for a brother in Christ, didn't quite get what we were hoping for. OK, honestly, I didn't know what to hope for back in the day, my main concern was my hair and that theme of hair concern has been a constant throughout my life. Yes, I am that shallow. I'm also not that political but you know as I have written before, I have that cynical side to me and I am having to keep that under control this morning. So this whole last paragraph has been writing something but not saying anything...which means I have one quality to run for office or to be a participant in a huge sporting matchup right before a big game, cause I could say I am taking it one game at a time or I am giving 110%.
********************************************************************************
Now it is late Thursday afternoon. I went with friends to Old Fort today. We went to the Painter's Greenhouse and found some fabulous plants to bring home. Afterwards we headed over to Marion and had lunch at a place on Main Street. Delicious! Velda and I also made a little side trip and did a drive by to see Warren Wilson College. I had always wanted to see it and it is a quaint, beautiful campus. After Velda helped me get my plants to the backyard, I took a much needed nap. Before I returned to finish this post I did a few things around here and put away stuff.

Vivian and I went to our late lunch at Stony Knob yesterday. Delicious and fun.

We enjoyed the cooler temps today which meant putting out a heavy sweatshirt kind of top. This should be the last of the really cool temps but just an hour away it is snowing in the higher elevations.

Happy Tuesday!

Our area has enjoyed spring time rains the past few days. Now the people to the east of us might not say that because those gentle spring rains we experienced became big old storms with hail, thunder and lightning. Since I am not a professional weather person I can only assume the gentle rains danced around with....trigger alert for those who don't like this word....moist air and gathered steam. It rained off and on throughout the night and it made the anticipation even greater because in about seven weeks we will have a metal roof on our home. I am leaning toward white or maybe a red or a gray roof. I have been looking at Google images of homes with the different colored roofs. Right now it is overcast and maybe more rain is in our future or maybe it is just cloudy skies.

Buddy and I woke up about the same time this morning, way too early....  She was attacking a piece of fuzz on the bedspread and I awoke from a dream that I didn't like.  Buddy's attention of attack mode was feeling like it would soon be directed toward me, so I opted to go watch I Love Lucy and then fall back asleep. Dang, if it wasn't some of my least favorite episodes. Finally, we both had settled Buddy realizing the "bug" was fuzz and I knowing it was just a dream but still I have had dreams before significant events in my life, so......  This was not a I ate too late kind of dream. Oh and no one dies in the dream.

Doug called last night to give me a better idea of the schedule for Erin's graduation. We also got caught up on each other's lives. After my heart episode on Saturday night, I am more cautious about activities and energy. I haven't had one of these in the longest time and it was the worst in the recent past. I was about this close to calling an ambulance but the mess kicked in and even though I didn't go right back into the normal range I could feel my heart rate getting back to normal. Of course you are exhausted from all that heart beating and it has taken a few days to regain my normal strength. I did a little test run to the PO yesterday and that went well. Today the grocery store, maybe. Doug suggested we use Uber to go to both ceremonies. I could not help but think of my last cab ride in Chattanooga when Peggy and I found ourselves on what we called the Bataan Death March and the consistent denial from the Chattanoogians that AC wasn't needed. Good grief it was hotter that day there than in Houston. We know to go from AC to AC and spend as little time outdoors in July as possible. I am thankful for friends here who help me out, Bill and Vivian with getting that trash can down and back from the road and Brenda who brought over enough supper that I was able to have lunch on Monday with the leftovers from their Sunday Supper.

I am beginning to realize I didn't know a thing until I joined in on social media. My goodness, one can get all kinds of advice, learn all the uses for vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Dawn detergent and such. All kinds of recipes I think I might one day make...haha! A million and one quotes, podcasts that will change my life, events, politics, who to boycott and why boycotting is wasted effort. I can read Bible verses, have a quiet time or join in a cause. Sometimes it is too much! If you are needing to market yourself, you are in luck because there are a thousand articles on how to do such a thing. I know who to contact for R&F, Plexious, Preimere Jewelry, some kind of fancy mascara, other kinds of skin care, essential oils, cleaning products, green cleaning products, no cleaning products...it is all there. I have learned about snakes, both venomous and good snakes. I cannot watch anymore sad dog videos though. Not even just the picture.  I can sign up for daily encouragement from multiple people and I can watch periscope live. I am not writing that this is good or bad....it is all just so available. At a click and a password away. If it really bothered me I would declare the FB and social media fast but it all amuses me and some of it is helpful. Especially the cute cat videos.

The sun is back out and the laundry nearly finished. Happy Tuesday!
