So Much to Pray Over but God Knows

Roy has gone to work out. We just finished dinner and I'm also doing laundry. Just one more week of Bible study in Katy. This is one of those things that has been such a delight and surprise. We have such a great group and we have really bonded. It will be sad to say goodbye for the summer but we'll see each other in September. Actually in August, but off the top of my head I don't know a see you in August song. We all wish we could be in the same group again, but that isn't likely to happen. Our group was usually the last of the stragglers to come in for lecture. We even got a second call today to get into large group time but I hope the semi rude woman who didn't look before speaking because we were all together in one accord praying for our friend who had suffered a tremendous loss, felt a little bad for being, you know, semi rude. It wasn't until I got home and read the prayer list email that on top of such a loss, her husband's job ended yesterday and that was quite shocking news for them to begin to process on top of everything else. My heart just aches for my friend tonight.

This week I have heard that several friends or their spouses have lost their jobs. Maybe the recession isn't as over as we are being told.

Two Bunko buddies have been dealing with either unexpected illness and surgery for a family member and the other with untimely death of two family members from a car accident.

If I thought I there wasn't enough to pray over, that would be so wrong.

Our friends stranded in London arrived home today! We watched their return on the news. Ah tears of joy for safe travel and their return earlier than anticipated. Most thought they would be flying home on Saturday.

Our lesson today was Habakkuk. The first two chapters are full of questions to God. He can't believe that God is going to use the Babylonians to humble Jerusalem. The third chapter is full of praise to God, knowing even if the fig tree doesn't blossom and everything else he lists out, his choice is to praise God. He gives strength and He is faithful and loving. Oh I am so glad that today we studied Habakkuk because this book is addressed to God, not people. It is almost like we get a glimpse into his prayer journal. Don't know about you, but mine has a lot of questions and once I've tired of writing it all out, I come back to who God is and His grace. Really, who am I to question? One of our questions today was what question would we like to ask God? I've always said that when I get to heaven I want to ask God why He didn't make our arms better coordinated to do the back of our hair? I'm sure that is something I won't even care about upon arriving in heaven. One other thing I shared was when Roy had been laid off and he was going through a whole bunch of interviews. He had interviewed with Stanford Financial. The salary was great and I remember telling the Lord that would be a perfect job for Roy. Even when Roy had a job, a job he loved and was so blessed by, I would drive on Westheimer and see the Stanford Financial building and say to God, that was a great job. I don't know why it wasn't for Roy. Well, uh, now we know all about Stanford Financial and of course my tune has changed. Thank you Lord for not listening to my repeated suggestions and complaints that went on way too long after the fact.

If you happen to remember any of these friends during the days ahead, I'd ask that you remember to bring them to the Lord prayerfully. Thank you and it is much appreciated.

POJ and Job, Surely There Has to Be Some Good Ideas

Do you remember all the fuss over the prayer of Jabez back in the day. Everyone had at least two copies of the book given to them as gifts and merchandising went totally and completely nuts. You couldn't walk into a Christian bookstore without being bombarded by POJ shower curtains, underwear, umbrellas, salt and pepper shakers, dishes, lampshades, rugs, and everything that one could think of, to be all Prayer of Jabez. You could decorate just about every room in your home with this stuff. People went nuts. Our crazy Sunday School teacher, not Dena but one who has returned to Second, did a whole stinking series on the prayer and she had to add something about earth, wind and fire to it. I couldn't help but sing, Do you remember the 21st night of September, You Don't Have to be a Star Baby to be in my show to her but crazy teacher didn't have a clue I was singing songs from the legendary group Earth, Wind and Fire. She taught on this right before the craze hit, so I was tired of it already by the time all the hype hit the stores. Nothing had been this big since WWJD. I kind of think home decor merchandisers that cater to Christians are waiting for another biggie like POJ to hit the scene. Certainly it would help with the recession. Well, I think I might have a really good idea for them but don't know quite how it would work.

Seems like many friends are going through the season of Job right now. Lots of afflictions and friends giving them bad advice. Trying to walk through difficult seasons and looking for God's presence in all of it. I need to sit down and think about this and try to come up with some catchy corny junk. My new life verse is Job 6:6, is tasteless food eaten without salt or is there flavor in the white of an egg? I leave you with Mississippi Mass Choir singing one of my all time favs.

A Re-cap ala Monablog Style

What was a rainy afternoon has turned into a pretty spring afternoon. I really need to go workout but I'm taking the chance while having it to update the ole blog. To say that Roy loves this new computer isn't saying enough. He is able to get a lot of work done at home now and he is having too much fun finding out all the neat capabilities of this baby. Personally, I love the touch screen capabilities of the new computer. Much easier to play games. He watched The Blind Side on it Friday night. The picture is really great. I didn't realize he had gotten Blue Ray on it. So computer time when Roy is home is slim to none. He went to workout and then pick up dinners from My Fit Foods. We are a divided home when it comes to workout facilities. He goes to 24 Hour Fitness and I go to Lifetime.

I love our new chairs we ordered in January just about as much or maybe even more than Roy loves the new computer. I need to take pictures of the chairs and post them. On Friday night while Roy watched the Blind Side, I was sitting in the glider reading Greater Love, the new book by Robert Whitlow. Since Friday, I've spent a lot of time in that chair. I went to Bible study Thursday morning but didn't stay for lecture. I was on my way home when Scott called and said they were running early on deliveries and could they come in about 30 minutes. Of course and to insure that I made great time on the freeway, I jumped onto the Easy Tag lane and zipped home. It was raining but miraculously stopped right when everything arrived. It is a ding donged dang pain to have deliveries here. So much red tape but as I told Scott, it used to be so much worse! They got the chairs in and delivered. It was really nice meeting Jennifer's husband. He is just so nice! Good man you have there Jennifer! Anyway, after we visited a few minutes about the lack of any easy ability to have an easy and stress free delivery here (oh sounded all like having a baby there for a minute) I teased Scott and told him I was going to go back over there and order some big old hutch for delivery. The color drained out of his face. I see that Amish Craftsman is having a sale on dinner tables. I might have to make a little look see at the store this week. We have been discussing getting a new dinning room table and chairs...and maybe even a hutch. You know we need a hutch to display the china that looks like a 23 year old picked it out. Jennifer, don't tell Scott. :)

Thursday evening I drove over to see where Lisa P works in Rice Village. It was a wonderfully cool evening, so I went in Mustang Sally, top down. Hers not mine. It is nice to be able to place where Lisa works when she talks about work.

Yesterday morning, Roy and I went for brunch at the Pappasita's on I-10. Oh my, it was so delicious! We were the only people for the longest time and we laughed at those who were standing in line for 59 Diner or Buffalo Grille or La Peep. What could be better eating? Chips and salsa, pecan pancakes, eggs and jalapeno sausage. After breakfast, we waddled out to the car and went to Academy to look at shoes for Roy. Of course, I found shoes, not Roy. We went to the Home Goods store and Pier One. We got home around 1:00. I was shocked that time had gone by so quickly but we really had a very fun morning.

Last night I tried Tasti Delite. I had read about it on Amanda's blog, nope on Living Proof's Blog... Anyway, went to the store in the Galleria area. Oh my, so very good! What a treat! Love that it is so close to us and when I'm craving something sweet, it's just a few miles away. It has been easier than in the past to say no to cookies and cake but ice cream or frozen yogurt has always been difficult. My serving of French Vanilla and strawberries was just about 100 calories. I had been to dinner and shopping with a friend in the late afternoon. We ate at Grand Lux and saying no to their desserts had to be struggled with way before I entered Grand Lux. That conversation and decision was made at home. That is something I have learned while losing weight, I have to make up my mind beforehand about what I will be eating, not in the heat of an emotional moment with temptation screaming at me in a restaurant.

Today's sermon was so good. Sometimes when the sermon touches on marriage, you kind of feel guilty that maybe you aren't being all you can be. We both got through this one OK. The only time I had to look at Roy and smile was about hearing the same story several times and knowing the ending but having the solution. I patted Roy's hand. He is a good listener and bless him, he hears some of my stories several times, from different points of view while I am processing the information. When we were first married, he would interrupt and tell me the solution to the whole ordeal. Yea, that went over really well. Since I was feeling a little light headed this morning, I didn't sing in choir. Wow, the choir sounded awesome! Roy and I had lunch at The Nord because I had some clothes to return. Sad to see them go back to the store but they are just too big and couldn't justify keeping them. While we were eating I got a text and then a call from Peggy. They were home! They stayed an extra four days in Israel, so they didn't get stuck in London with the rest of the group. It was so good to hear her voice and I can't wait to see pics and hear stories. When we came home, I headed for a nap. And now on the computer. Guess if I want my new clothes to keep fitting, I need to go workout.

Monablog 2007

Seems like everyone is writing a book or has a website or has a full calendar of speaking dates. Well, I'm not participating with any of those things but I did receive something today that belongs in the genre of writing. Today the 2007 edition of Monablog came. Had a soft cover edition made. I didn't do too much editing for 2007 but will edit more for 2008 and 2009. It has been a lot of fun reading through all those 2007 posts. Since it was all so new back then, the posts are much more poignant than those of recent writing. Last year I let a comment affect the direction of Monablog. It was made by someone I've met but doesn't know me very well, if at all. So, I being so mature, just went opposite of what they suggested, disregarded their observation of my recent shallowness and I never published their comment. But in the long run, I went a different direction because so many blogs that used to be fun to read were becoming a running Bible study lesson. Not that I don't like the Word and reading what others want to share, but it has become this thing of, this is what the Lord showed me 20 minutes ago and my panties were all in a bunch because I could not post this fast enough. Maybe that Word was for just them and maybe, just maybe God would like them to meditate just a little bit before expounding on a blog. I digress, anyway I'll begin working on the 2008 edition just leaving in posts that have some meaning. This is a great companion to journals. Journals are for writing and praying out the tough stuff. Hardly do I ever sit and write down all the fun cause fun needs an audience.

Also got some exciting news today from the Amish furniture store. Our chairs are here and are ready to be delivered. So, they will be delivered around 2:00 tomorrow. Jennifer, I will get to formally meet your husband. GPS doesn't work in finding our home. GPS will send you close to the Houstonian or Stablewood (I wish). Then the condo has all kinds of rules about checking in etc... so I am sure the guy who called thinks I am some kind of detail and control nut. I just know how this works from a lot of experience.

I've officially lost 109 pounds. A few more and I will have lost Peggy. Think I have already lost Kelly Matte a long time ago. I'm so glad that strawberries and blackberries are coming into season. The nectarines from Chile were becoming kind of boring to me. Then bananas and apples are the back up staples of fruitdom here. Roy has discovered Korean pears and Onco Blancos or something like that. Neither of those peak my interests.

It was so much fun to run into Susan K yesterday. We do love some books. We were trading titles and stories so fast that I need to email her and ask that she repeat all the titles she was telling me about. They all sounded good. I'm reading Greater Love by Robert Whitlow. I have loved it so far but today I hit the part of the story that I don't like the direction it is going. Of course after completing the book, I might feel differently. Since it stung so hard maybe God is trying to get my attention about some things in my own heart.

Last night my dizzy and vertigo affected friend and I went out for dinner. I volunteered to bring her something but she was in the mood to get out and about. Our choice for our dining pleasure, seafood. Had shrimp gumbo...beefsteak tomatoes with spinach and feta cheese, and boiled shrimp. We split everything but the gumbo. Very delicious. We had emailed during the day and right before going to workout with Debbie, Vera Vertigo sent an email with our dinner conversation agenda. I had asked so many questions that if we didn't have a guide, we would have never covered everything. I love having such an organized friend. Yesterday, was a day filled with seeing friends. Not that I have blind friends and I would welcome a blind friend, it's just re-reading that sentence I realized how incorrect it was grammatically. Hmm, maybe I'm the dizzy one.

And Now a Word from......

Another beautiful day here in H-Town. When Roy called around 11:20 asking me if his meds were here and if so could I bring them to him downtown, I checked in the cabinet and told him I would be downtown in a jiff. Great top down weather.

Yesterday, we went to Pappasita's for brunch. We went to church but skipped out on Sunday School. I know we call it Sunday Bible Study, but heck it doesn't sound so bad when one writes skipping Sunday School. Roy ordered the pancakes and they were the lightest, fluffiest pancakes I've ever tasted. And triple score, they were pecan pancakes. I went with my usual migas but dang, next time it will be the pancake breakfast for sure. Don't know about other Pappasita's but the one on I-10 serves them on Saturday and Sunday. Next time you're looking for breakfast out on a weekend, give them a try. Our waitress told us they aren't busy on Saturday mornings. Oh, they open at 9:30. I'm thinking we might have to make a Saturday breakfast run this weekend.

On Friday evening we made a return trip to the land of sugar. Back to Super Target for another rug runner. We looked at Memorial City but they didn't have the style. Love those 10% discount days.

Finished a couple of books this weekend and love the feeling of having another stack to go through. Started the new Robert Whitlow book this afternoon. It was difficult to put down and go work out with Debbie. I had to miss both workouts last week with her due to the A/C guy and his schedule. On Saturday I stuck very close to home. Had a couple of showers to attend, but with a change in some of my meds and supplements, I knew I needed to stick close to home. So glad I did. I'll get gifts to the intended soon.

Sunday evening I went to workout at Lifetime. When I returned to the car in the parking garage there was the noise of an engine roaring, horns honking and just some general chaos. Stuff like that makes me a tad bit nervous. The engine sounded like a souped up motorcycle or sports car. I could only imagine some thugs or something challenging people in the parking garage. As I sat in my car and prepared to leave, I saw what was making all that terrible and intimidating noise. It was some kid reviving up the motor on a suburban, probably his mother's and probably burning up the engine as he race around the parking garage, in the wrong direction. I put the top down and prepared to leave. Coming up to me was a security officer, on a bike. He asked if I was the one creating all the commotion? Now, he probably felt a little silly when he realized he had a 55 year old woman sitting there, with the Carpenter's playing in the background. No garage cop, it's some kid in his mom's suburban and he went that a way! Thank you mam, didn't mean to disturb you. Me-no disturbance taken. Good luck on catching them on that bike....no I didn't say the last part but I sure was thinking it.

Well, that's about it for the day.

New Computer-What a Difference

Roy has been back and forth on getting a new computer. Our lemon laptop has been quite disappointing, to say the least. HP, maker of lemon laptop, sent an advertising email about new products not even in the store yet. So, we gave them another try and so far so good. Even all the stuff Roy has transferred over and off a back up hard drive has been flawless. He has in the past done this kind of thing when I'm out and about because Nancy with no patience can't take all the drama involved. I don't know if he has put my email on here yet because I really can't find it. No prob, been adding favorite blogs to Favorites and getting on FaceBook. The screen is HUGE! I can see! Working with photos is going to be a lot more fun. Bigger keyboard, yep and it is much easier on the hands and wrists. Lemon laptop is still under warranty, so it is going back in the shop for an overhaul. Roy should be home soon and he will chase me off the computer but I wanted to get on for just a bit.

Today was time well spent out in the Land of Sugar. Of course, great haircut by Stevie. A quick trip into Whole Foods. Lots of time spent in Super Target because of a 10% coupon I had. Great deals where plentiful. Found a rug on clearance and a runner too. Then to the Christian book store. Found a few things. Then to Academy and Cost World of whatever that place is called. Found a great picture for our bedroom there. It will add some color and cheer to the palette of the bedroom. I was in the Land of Sugar much longer than usual, but it was a very fun outing.

Candie called yesterday. Who is Candie? Well, she is the lucky person who now works with Jason. She replaced me last year when I retired. Anyway, she asked me to do the devotion for the Admin retreat in May. I am really excited about doing this. I made sure I didn't have to be there at 8:00 am. Kind of out of practice for that.

Roy just called and he is pulling in now. Better jump off and hand over the computer.

Oh Beauty That is Houston on a Spring Day

It has been an absolutely beautiful day. Cooler temps with a breeze, even had the top down as I ran errands today. Although early on, I also had some heat blasting out the vents to make the coolness tolerable. Peggy introduced me to some easy to assemble salads at Kroger's. The spinach one is very much like my Amuse salad. Kroger was out of them, the stock boy even went to the back to check.

Finding something to wear right now is difficult. It's as if I am starting out from scratch. I've been fortunate that I have caught several good sales and today I made a careful investment in some Flax tops and jackets. As much as I dislike math, it is like a math problem deciding on what size to buy to get the most wear of an item. That is why I purchased Flax today. It will be fine for size changes coming up. The other penurious thing I've done is buy some belts to make bigger tops fit. There are several more bags of clothes waiting to go to the Mission Training Center or Goodwill. OK, great highlight to my afternoon. Coming home I was driving kind of slow on the feeder road. I had a guy on a revved up scooter behind me and I didn't want to make him mad with a couple of lane changes I had to make due to a stopped truck. I quickly went back into my original lane so he could get by me. I feel that he is coming up beside my car and he's honking his horn. I looked over and it was Jerrell Altic. Loved it! Thanks Jerrell, made my day!

Finally, after a two and a half day wait, the A/C guys made it here yesterday. I prefer Roy to be here when workmen come a calling but with everyone getting Tuesday off for the funeral, quarter close is barreling down on them. The guys who fixed everything were really nice but I'm not going to stand there and talk...ask questions...comment on the nature of the beast etc... like Roy does. I calmly came into the den/office and looked at clothes on J.Jill and only talked when I was spoken to.

On the way to meet Cassi for lunch yesterday, I saw something I won't forget for awhile. I took the scenic, back way to La Fiesta. Along one street a nanny was pushing an empty stroller with a little girl holding onto it and pushing it with her. They stopped in front of some beautiful flowers and the nanny was doing her best to get the little girl to go look at the flowers. The little girl had no interest in the beauty about her, she was more interested in her belly button. She had her little top pulled up and she was bending over trying to get a much better look at her belly button. Of course she had her fingers in there and so her belly button was completely covered. Again, she was asked to go look at the flowers and she was more determined with her vigorous head shaking indicating NO! She stood there in the midst of all that spring time beauty immersed into the qualities of her belly button. I laughed and went on but in my spirit I heard the Lord speak, not so funny, you do things like this all the time when I'm trying to get you to look at all I have for you. You're like the little girl, not interested in seeing My hand cause you've got your hand and eyes on your belly button. Well, that got my attention. Thanks Lord! I want to see where you are so I will be there too, not missing a thing You have to show or speak.

I'm being the good wifey pooh and picking up Roy from the office tonight. Think we will grab some din din and then come home. He has to have a root canal in the morning, while I get to go to the land of Sugar for a hair cut....and some Super Target...and some Whole Foods....and maybe a little stop at Academy.

God Honoring, God Glorifying- One Man's Life

I have just a few minutes because I need to get ready to meet Casi for lunch but I wanted to get my thoughts down about yesterday. We went to the memorial service for Dan Duncan. Lots of Enterprise Product folks had the same idea we had, go early to Second Baptist, get a parking spot and then walk over to Cafe Express for lunch. The paper said this morning that over 3000 were in attendance. The 3000 heard the Gospel yesterday. I believe the DVD of that service could be sent out and used to teach and many would come to know the Lord. Dr. Young was impressive as always but Jan Duncan, the widow of Dan, gave the eulogy and she knocked that baby out of the park! Wow! Neither Roy nor I had a pen because if we'd had one, we would have been taking notes. She emphasised that we are God's love to those He has put into our lives and that we need to use those gifts God has given us to express His love so that others may know Him. She said to give or to be giving is put into each one of us by the Lord and if we have trouble being generous with our lives, time and money, we have handicapped our hearts. Jan quoted from her favorite book, Conversations with God frequently throughout her talk. The music, just everything was so God honoring and glorifying. I think I am still trying to process all that I heard yesterday in that service.

Afterwards in the reception with the family we were able to see so many friends. I was on a very focused hunt to find Dub and Mary. I played tennis with Mary and her sister Marti. Dub retired from Enterprise several years ago as the CEO. The country life is agreeing with them, they both looked rested and refreshed. In 1999 on a girl's night away, I was sitting on the porch at their ranch house in Brenham, early in the morning, the dew and mist covered the rolling valleys. Only Mary and I were awake and we shared conversation and coffee that morning. Mary went back to the kitchen to bring us more coffee and in those moments alone, I prayed for Roy, who had just been laid off. Actually, this story really begins in the summer of '99. Roy was on a huge project and he called to vent frustrations over progress or maybe lack of progress. I told him, shut it down, come on home and let's go out to eat. We did just that and we had dinner at Escalante's, where Dub and Mary had just been seated. We all had dinner together and Roy and Dub talked about the implementation project he was on. Of course Mary and I talked of much more interesting things. Well to us, anyway, back to the story, when Mary got home from the ranch she mentioned Roy to Dub. She talked about his upcoming interviews in Long Island and San Francisco. The rest of the story is history, good history, and Roy certainly has been blessed. But I love those divine appointments that God has. And to even top it off, the divine appointments were fun.

We also ran into Linwood and John Olson. I played tennis with Linwood and we share the love of Southern fiction together. She is the epitome of the Southern lady. John is one of the first analysts that recognized the problems with Enron. We were able to visit with them a little. We saw the mover and shakers of the city and state, in law, in medicine and in business at the reception. There were others there like us, nobodies, but having the same respect and admiration of a humble, hardworking and honest man. Rest in peace Dan Duncan, well done thou good and faithful servant.

Easter After Glo

Monday morning after Easter. I must admit to being a little tired today but yesterday was so much, well just so much of everything Easter. The choir sang in all three services yesterday and it was such a special way of worshipping the Risen King of Kings! Loved hearing Pastor Gregg's sermon three times. No really! But Easter celebrations began that morning reading all the accounts in the Gospels of Easter while eating breakfast. The most important meal and reading of the day. When I got home after the second service, Roy had lunch ready and it was delicious. Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, a gumbo style mix of veggies, Texas caviar and strawberries and whipped cream for dessert. Such deliciousness sent me to nap time a very happy girl. Roy and I realized at lunch this is the first year we have not had any Easter candy, at all. Guess in hindsight that's what we gave up for lent.

Thursday evening Roy and I went out to dinner, and then to Memorial City Mall to look for a dress I could wear to a funeral. The dress also needed to be able to multi task and serve for other things. We found one at Dillard's. I didn't even try it on, I was worn out. Funny how an emotional subject from the past can do that. Peggy and I were recalling at lunch a trip I had taken years ago that didn't end well with me and the "friend" I went with. Now looking back with older eyes I can see it differently. But that emotional look back drained me. Like my therapist says, emotions take energy. That conversation was not something I saw coming but I'm glad it did since it helped facilitate a more honest look back at a particularly stressful trip and time. Oh, I did try the dress on Saturday and it fits. That is more than I can say for the one I wore on Sunday. Way too big! Didn't matter, I was covered up in a choir robe most of the morning.

Roy's weekend was consumed by taxes, by ours, his mother's, the estate and his last client. Ours were particularly difficult this year, but he got them done. Roy also graciously helped me move our dresser to another spot in our bedroom. Looks so much better in its new place. I didn't even start laughing because laughing is what I do when moving furniture. Now, when we moved the cedar chest, he brought home from his mother's, that is when the laughter started. It wasn't too bad because the cedar chest is light and can be moved while laughing hysterically.

So this morning finds me waiting at home, for an A/C guy and for a new computer to be delivered. I had wanted to go to see Lisa P at work, but that doesn't look like that is going to happen today. Just talked to my mom and wished her a Happy 81 Birthday and I need to call CourtneyS and wish her a Happy Birthday too.

Happy and glorious Easter Monday y'all!

Letting Go

Roy will be home in just a little bit and thus his three day weekend will begin. It sounds like most of his "off" time will be spent doing our taxes, his last client from his CPA practice taxes and his mother's estate taxes. See what happens when you are so darn smart! You get to do math while your lovely wife reads or yet again cleans out the closet of clothes she can no longer wear.

It is difficult letting go of some of my favorite outfits, but it is heartening to know that someone else may love them just as much as I have. I wandered around Macy's on Tuesday trying to figure out where everything is and there were several tops and jackets deeply discounted on sale that had my name on them. Now I need to find something to wear to a funeral. No longer do I have my stand by funeral dress, it is too big. Besides, it has been my funeral dress for the past 10 plus years and when you only see people every once in awhile and it seems to be at funerals, it would be nice to vary up the outfits. Now there are those who will say, no one remembers what you had on. So true, maybe...but I'd feel better attending a funeral where I have to be Mrs. Monarch not just Nancy in something other than a dress that can now be used as a FEMA tent for a family of six. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about a new Easter frock. Three services in a choir robe. I could come in my jammies if I arrived early enough and stayed late enough. Not to fear. I'll be suitably dressed for Sunday.

We discussed and studied the books Obadiah and Nahum in Bible study today. I felt certain I had done much more of the homework than what my workbook actually revealed. During my "study" time at home, several crisis' came up one of which was helping Roy download pictures onto the computer. I got so caught up with that, thus memory failed an hour or so later that just a few of the many questions had been answered. Imagine my surprise when I opened up the workbook this morning in discussion time and just a few questions had been answered. OK, I answered the easy ones where the answer is God and the other easy one is about sin and you can't go wrong with the answer, pride. Pride seems to cover a multitude of sin answers for homework. All the hard ones that required a lot more scripture look up and deeply thought out answers were left blank. Peggy said, you were kind of quiet in discussion time. I showed her my workbook and that seemed to answer her question. Afterwards, Peggy and I went out to lunch. We are so ADD we cover a lot of subjects in little time. Now how well we cover them is up for debate. Her life is a whirlwind of activities and in the midst of birthday parties, Easter and just regular everyday life, she is trying to get packed for Israel.

The Biltmore Inn is probably tired of me and might just be preparing for our visit with the stamp of "high maintenance" on our paperwork. Anyway, it seems everything has now been updated correctly. I am only a detailed person when it is actually something I am interested in.

This week the pollen finally got to me. It has been a battle but think a corner has been turned in the fight. The hinges of Mustang Sally's doors are covered in yellow...hinges that aren't always exposed to the elements. All of our lungs are probably a lovely shade of springy yellow. How wonderful, just in time for Easter.

A Man With a Microphone Comeplete WIth Tract Singers

You know I love me some good Mexican food. Los Cucos used to fit into our schedule and the plus point being, close to home. Ever since they have added man and microphone complete with tract singers, I've not been all that interested in going there. Well, at least not going there on Thursday nights because that was the appointed time for lounge singer man. He is somewhat good, but his singing rules out any chance of normal decibel conversation. Miss a beat or two and your loud conversation hits the silence of rests or end of song and then don't think about hiding because everyone knows you just yelled. Only thing, every body is yelling so in the silence of rests and endings one can pick up all manner of conversation that would usually be done in normal conversational tone. We should have known tonight when the majority of people at Los Cucos were sitting outside on the patio, they weren't just there because it is a beautiful late Houston afternoon. NO, they were escaping man and microphone complete with tract singers.

Now my friend and I had lots of catching up and lots of new material to go over. Discussing life especially when we both had elder parent issues is meant to remain in the boothal conversation. When we came in Los Cucos, I thought they had the TVs turned up loud but that is when we saw man with microphone complete with tract singers. We debated on trading places and eating outside with the cool wind instead of inside with the cool sounds of, man...well you know who. Man even sang a Bee Gee's song that was so out of his vocal range. He had no falsetto. That's when I wished Jason was in the house and could show the man what falsetto is all about. I tried to pray and bless our meal with; "I've been to the desert on a horse with no name, it was good to be out of the rain..." was blasting in the background. He sang some Beatles classics and a few other mildly popular songs from the 70's. Once we both looked over because all we could hear were the instruments and background singers. We thought he had left everything playing while taking a break. No, he was singing but he couldn't be heard over all the musical sounds coming from his fancy smancy music machine. Man with microphone complete with tract singers never took a break the whole hour and a half we were there. Some encouraged him with scattered applause but they soon ceased because it was becoming apparent, he wasn't going to stop singing. Los Cucos has him set up in the far corner, near the bar. He has his karaoke machine right there next to him. I almost sent him a margarita to stop the noise but I figured it would be like the applause and it would feed his need to continue singing without a break.

My friend and I were able to continue with conversation and catch up, but I kind of have a sore throat from my elevated voice level.

Wor, Huh, What is it Good For? Of Course the Answer is Lunch

If it's Thursday, it must be Bible study day in Katy. I've kind of made it a habit of going late just to be able to make it in time for core group discussion. The leadership standing in the lobby must wonder, she is always late and today she didn't even stay for lecture time. What is up? Well, I had lunch plans. I absolutely love the discussion time and this is surprising because discussion time is usually something I really don't enjoy. Our group has a great and fun leader and our group has really gelled. Even though Peggy wasn't there today, we still went down rabbit trails.

So I went to the Orient Cafe across the street to load up on some Chinese soup goodness, Wor Won ton Soup. I got three orders, two for lunch and one for Roy to have for dinner tonight. We are talking huge portions but being well trained by Erin D, I only ate half of my soup. I took this deliciousness over to have lunch with Dena and we ate in her office, at her table, and underneath a horse. Her office is right under the Mustang horse on her building. Wish I could have taken a picture of it or something. Dena has heard me rave about this soup and it was just about dang time she tried it. You know we did it up quite nice for a girl from Baytown and a girl born in Illinois. Dena brought bright red bowls from home and Mustang furnished some fancy goblets for our Coke and Diet Coke. Dessert, fresh raspberries. I don't think the soup disappointed...it was good! It is kind of a soup day here in Houston, sunny, very windy and cooler temps than normal.

Yesterday I had lunch with Erin Hollister at The Nord. We had a wonderful time and realized it had been a year since we had last dined together. The evening we ran into she and her husband at Sweet Tomatoes doesn't count even though our booths were back to back.

I am an EBay virgin no longer. I don't count the times that Jason had me watching an item and bidding on it while he was in meetings or something. Erin D had mentioned a bracelet that Brighton makes. It is an ID type and it says Celebrate Small Victories. Of course it is no where to be found or so I thought. I had searched for it online but to no avail. I was telling Debbie about it during our Monday work out and at the end, like she always does, she prayed. This time though, she specifically mentioned the bracelet and would the Lord provide one. Monday night I was searching again and one came up on EBay. Heck, I just bought the thing without all that bidding junk. So it is supposed to be on the way. I want the bracelet to remind me that when I make a good choice, like no emotional eating, I can celebrate that small victory. I did celebrate yesterday because I have lost 106 pounds. Only 34 more to go. I am celebrating the huge victory of God being so gracious as to answering that very small prayer. Praise Him!

So tonight I will have what is left of my Wor Won ton soup and my left over steak from the Nord. Sounds like some good eating to me.

Ah, 667...No Bunko...No Bibllical Number...Just a Post

Roy is home from France. He got home around 12:30 am Sunday. I was so excited to see him. I had missed him something awful! He brought home great gifts, well besides the gift of his presence. We both had really good intentions of going to church Sunday morning but we had to do the two or more church at Sweet Tomatoes later on that morning. We had a great breakfast and God had a word for us right there in the midst of all that chaos and eggs. No chaos at our table but lots of families with little ones there.

Out of the nearly 500 pictures that Roy took, I think this one is one of my favorites. I helped him download pictures last night. Now he needs to go through them and label. Hey, I learned my lesson from not labeling my Israel photos. Roy is still processing his trip but God spoke to his heart, but not the way Roy thought he would. So for Roy there is much pondering.

This is my 667 post. Number 666 hasn't been published and probably won't be. I was trying to stay away Saturday night and I wrote out a rambling post on moments in life that we have let define us. It is interesting that an unfortunate event when I was in the second grade has held too much power over my thought process and how I have defined myself through the years. Up until about five years ago, just thinking about the incident and the repercussions from it would make me so angry. I've made peace with it and just like He has promised, it is a peace that passes all understanding that is guarding my heart.

I'm so thankful for all the bright sunshine today. It is good for my soul. Had a great workout with Debbie this afternoon and I am celebrating losing another pound. Slow and steady.... I have to say I did have a momentary indiscretion and had more than one biscuit yesterday morning. Sometimes you just have to do that. Happy to report I am back on the wagon of good food choices today.

While Roy was gone I booked Buddy into the Cat Bed and Breakfast and Roy and I are booked for a much needed and looked forward to stay at The Biltmore in Asheville. Looking forward to the get away and now they have a spa...ahhhh.... We are also going to go horseback riding. I had a horse when I was younger but it has been a looonnnngggg time since I have ridden a horse. Too bad Kiddie Land isn't on Main anymore. I could go ride those ponies around the ring to get my "seat" back.

Spring Break with Nancy Mon

It is a beautiful spring day on the last day of winter here in H-town. Tomorrow a winter cold front is coming through on the first day of spring. Only in Houston. I've had Mustang Sally out quite a bit this week which in this type of weather makes errands all types of fun. Although with the coming of spring comes the wonderfully and oh so loverly yellow oak tree pollen that coats everything in its path. I'm considering standing outside for a while and hopefully yellow pollen will strategically land on my roots and I will look blonder. It's just that if I was around anyone allergic to this dustin' of pollen, they made sneeze their heads off. Our Camry is thickly coated yellow. Sally seems to brush off the pollen a little easier. I thought about taking the cars to be washed but it is futile. They will look yellow by the morning.

Monday evening was Cowgirl Bunko at CourtneyS. We had delicious chili and tamales. And blackberry cobbler which I only took about 2 tablespoons of a serving. It was delicious. Once again Linda S volunteered to pick me up and we had a blast coming and going to bunko. Our trip was adventure free this time, but there is always the hope of next time. Since I had been rodeo shopping at Reliant Arena and since Bunko was rescheduled, I was able to wear my cowgirl shirt that I had bought. Now there is a lot of talk about Mutton Bustin' and I even happen to know a Mutton Bustin' champion and buckle wearing winner, but the term mutton bustin', soon became button bustin' in our vernacular. Dena and I love CR Ranch and we always go see what the ladies have when we go rodeo shopping. The shirts are rather fitted and I bought mine thinking it would be next year before being able to wear it. To my surprise, it fit but I wasn't too sure how secure the bustin buttons would hold being a tad tighter in the "Betty" arena. I'm happy to report the buttons held all night. No ones eye was put out with a flying star shaped button during a wild wrestling in grabbing part of a bunko.

The week has been a quiet one. Buddy got to have the spa experience for cats on Tuesday, a mani pedi and a bath. They said she was well behaved. Some cats have to be anesthetized just to get a bath. They are so wild and unruly. Buddy was a tad cool towards me once she got home but warmed up and was sitting in my lap in no time. She waited to show her displeasure until bedtime. I was falling asleep and she attached my head. my lightning quick reflexes of yore returned to me briefly that night and I grabbed her before she could get away and hide under the bed. Buddy was quickly banished from the bedroom and I enjoyed a full night's rest with her eviction from my presence.

Today my BFF, Goodwill, got 9 bags of clothing from the closet and dresser. Nothing fits, everything is too big. Nice problem. So I really did spring cleaning and have been loading the trunk of the Camry all week with clothes. An article this week explained the spirituality of de-cluttering ones life. The article isn't even from a Christian source but from one of the websites that emails encouragement to those of us in the throes of weight loss. This de-cluttering has been a process since Christmas. Without me realizing it in the arduous process, God's been showing me through all this sorting, giving and throwing away the work He is doing inwardly in me. Maybe He has been showing me all this and I'm just now taking the time to pay attention.

Wednesday found me at The Nord for triple point purchases. I was so intimidated to shop on the second floor. Where does one begin? How would I know which brands run small and which are true to size? I asked for help and a wonderful clerk, Rhoda helped me. For all you Bad Seed fans out there, I still had Rhoda....bahahaha.... Watch the movie. Anyway, she was most helpful and we found most things on the sale rack. This morning I went back to The Nord and took back clothes that I had bought just a couple of months ago that are now way too big. A nice trade off financially. And score parking bonus, I parked in my favorite parking space both trips.

Wednesday night Dena and I experienced a Red Sea like miracle. She picked me up after work to go to dinner but first she needed to pick up some new glasses at Eye Master, the one in Highland Village. Since parking is always a crap shoot around there, we decided we would takes our chances in crossing Westheimer to get over to Escalante's. If you live in Houston you know what Westheimer looks like at rush hour. God parted the traffic going and coming back. The only cars we saw were from a distance. Guess who we ran into...not on the street but in Escalante's? Roger and Mary Ann B! As we were leaving, we went over to interrupt their date night. It was great seeing them except that Mary Ann totally snubbed me. Not really! She and Dena had some prayer talk items to discuss.

Had dinner at Buffalo Grille last night. My food journal will not be the same-o, same-o this week.

Today on the last day of winter, I had my first pedicure of the spring. I went to the spa at Lifetime to have it done. I just wasn't in the mood for a "Beautiful Nail" type experience today. Since my toes aren't showing in the winter, I don't get regular pedicures like I do the rest of the year. I didn't want to hear all that foreign talking with laughter and begin to feel insecure because of course I KNOW they are laughing about the poor and sorry condition of my feet and nails. Yes, I have read So Long Insecurity by Beth, but she didn't really cover this subject by name. Thus, my choice of Lifetime where they only have 2 chairs for pedicures. One thing that surprised me, she used a Jr blade on my feet. I haven't had that done in years. Of course I was texting Lisa P...she's using the blade. This is in reference to one of the funniest stories I have ever heard. Ask Lisa to tell you and be ready to laugh until you cry. Since it is the first pedicure of the season, the choice of color had to be bright pink. My feet are finally fit for flip flops.

Well, I better go see what I can rustle up for dinner. Then I'm finishing up some projects. Roy will be shocked when he returns home to see some of these long term projects finished and put up.

And The Winner Is......

I just took Buddy to the groomers for her mani/pedi and bath. She was not a happy camper.

Anyway, I just did the drawing for the Four Gift Cards.

And the winner is

Ria et Claude!

I know Ria, she is in choir, she is a tall friend, she is from France and if I was really France-y I would write something in French. But she has seen my attempts before. Anyway, congratulations Ria and I will be giving you your gift cards in person on Sunday.

Thank you everyone for commenting and playing. When I reach my final goal of losing about 40 more pounds, I will do another give a way. They are so much fun!

My Spring is Sprung

I'm not springing forward very well. Reset the clocks on Saturday night but I guess my brain didn't get the message because I slept Sunday morning like a sinner till half past nine. So I decided to reverse the day. Went to the gym in the morning and went to church for sleepy heads last night. It was a nice change. Got to see friends that I normally don't see anymore on Sundays because we are on different Sunday tracks.

Last night I even went to bed earlier trying to combat losing an hour. Didn't work, I slept till 9:00. So officially, I think my spring has sprung.

Don't forget that today is the last day to leave a comment here for the gift card give a way.

Foam Rollers-Feel So Good!

What an absolutely beautiful day! I've been running errands this morning in Mustang Sally. Oh yes, it is a top down day. Doo dah, doo dah.... I don't know why but I thought that needed to be added. I also made a stop at Lifetime to do some strength work. Afterwards I did some stretching on the Pro Roller or as I have learned to call it the foam roller. That's what Debbie B, trainer to the starts and to me, told me it is called. I love this foam roller thing and all the stretching you can do with it. I think the official title of the regimen is myo fascias...oh who am I kidding, I don't remember the name of what it is called, but when I see one of those rollers, I am singing, baby come to me. Let me put myself on you... After working out the knots and muscles I feel a lot taller than I am. The first time I used one of the rollers, I was looking for a ciggie in the University Room to share with foam roller. Oh yea, it was good.

Since I was feeling sooooo goooood, little shout out to the Teen Girl Squad, I went to Anthropolgy afterwards. Found some smaller plates that match our everyday stuff. They say putting your food on a smaller plate help portion control. What the heck, for $3.95 a plate, I am willing to give it a try. Also found a really neat travel journal that I just put some personal touches to and will give it to Roy when he leaves on his mission trip. Also wrote him a couple of notes on some really cool airmail paper. Even Buddy wrote a note or two with a little help from me. I don't think Buddy will be missing Roy as much as I will.

Yesterday, after Bible study, I headed over to the land of sugar via 99. I was able to make a quick stop at Super Target and after my haircut, a stop at Whole Foods. Whole Foods was out of the chicken sausage that Roy and I are loving for Saturday morning breakfast.

I find myself in a good dilemma. None of my dressy clothes fit anymore, too big. So, what to wear to a wedding tomorrow? I hope I find something. Good thing we don't have to be all dressy for church anymore.

Well, I am off to pick up Roy from his haircut and then go to Fit Foods to pick up a few meals. We've been alternating between My Fit Foods and Tru Meals. Both are very good and very healthy.

'If you haven't done so, go to the post about losing 100 lbs and make a comment. That way you'll be eligible for the drawing on Monday for the $100 in gift cards.

Conversations, Rodeo, The Lord, The Nord, The Mouse, The Master

*** Blogger is not letting me move my pictures. These sheep have nothing to do with Thursday but everything to do with Friday at the Rodeo. Thanks.*****

Wow, what an incredibly exciting weekend! How incredibly tired on Monday morning. Actually, the fun began on Thursday evening. My friend Beth was in town and we were able to grab some dinner and some much needed catch up time. Beth and I have known each other since elementary school and have been good friends since high school. We have walked through many seasons together and when we get to see one another it's as if time and distance have never existed in our friendship. We pick up where we leave off and our conversations which lean to the deep side and our laughter which leans to the silly side, make up for the time with Beth in Gig Harbor and me in Houston. Our depth and silliness has changed very little over the past 38 years, only the topics and stages of life. We still act like we are 17 years old when we get together, but evermore we are reminded that we are in our 50's, see topics and stages of life conversation. The few hours we got to spend together were wonderful.

Friday morning Dena and I headed over to the ro-de-oooooo for some shopping, oh and some agricultural education. Who am I kidding, we watched 5 and 6 year olds do some mutton' bustin' while we ate lunch. Of course I took pictures of the sheep. But that is about as close to anything agricultural for us on Friday. We were all about supporting the economy on Friday. We returned to our favorite vendor, CR Ranch @B4044. She has all types of neat shirts, pajamas, etc... I fell in love with her stuff last year and wasn't disappointed this year. We did our rodeo transportation much differently this year. We did not park on site and then wait for the kindness of a golf cart to get us back to the trams, we parked at Reed Road and took the bus. Much nicer and better run experience. After seeing just about everything that has to do with vendors, we decided there was still time in the day for a trip to Nord Rack and an early dinner at Grand Lux. I have to tell you, it has been a long while since I have done so much back to back to back activities. I was a very tired cowgirl upon returning home in the evening.
Saturday, we met my parents for lunch. Afterwards. Roy and I ran errands to finish up getting everything he needed for his mission trip. When we got home, I crashed for a nap. Seems like nap taking has taken a back seat in life these days and has been relegated to Sunday. Think my body was still trying to recover.
Of course Sunday morning, church. Since Roy had a luncheon to attend, I had lunch with a friend at The Nord. Such a nice transition into Sunday afternoon. The added thrill to my experience was shopping and buying some Bermuda shorts and capris in Point of View. My first purchase for me on the second floor of the Nord.
Last but not least, Thursday morning was the seminar with Derric Johnson, 15 Things I Learned From the Mouse That Can Be Used For the Master. Awesome and time well spent. So many things he said have been in the forefront of my mind this weekend. Peggy and I attended this on Thursday morning at First Baptist. Think I will save my thoughts on this for another post.
Don't forget to register for the give a way! Comment on March 2 post. If you don't happen to live in Houston, you can still register. I can do different gift cards for stores in your area. Oh, I have since lost another pound. Wow! It is hard for me to get my brain around... Hopefully the pound loss is not from a shrinking brain!
Have a Happy Monday! It's raining here in Houston, but don't let rainy days and Mondays get you down. Bahahha.....A little soft, adult contempo humor.

He Must Increase and I Must Decrease-Yep Lost 100 Pounds! Let's Have a Huge Give a Way!

We overslept this morning. It is not something that happens very often during the work week. Once Roy was out the door, I settled back in thinking that I'd sleep another 30 minutes or so. Silly rabbit, I overslept another 2 hours. The day just wasn't starting out as I had envisioned. So going with the plans blown theme, I threw caution to the wind and decided to weigh this morning instead of my usual Wednesday morning routine. Bleary eyed and weary I pushed the user 1 button on the scale and once it had ran through the inputted info of age and height, I stepped on the scale... There, just like the Magic 8 ball, a number appeared that I have only seen in magazines and a long time ago when I was much younger. Oh my! That dratted pound had finally left the building. I decided to do a re-do just to make sure. I have no clue how or why this happened, but when I stepped on the scale to reconfirm the number so I could truly celebrate, the number 370 came up. What the heck? No way, what? I have never weighed that much. Calmly, I stepped off the scale and did another re-do and the original number came up. It was time to celebrate. I woke up Buddy, our cat, who didn't seem at all in a celebratory mood and only reacted by covering her face with her paws.

After emailing Roy and a few friends, I announced the news on Facebook. It crossed my mind this morning as I left the house to run errands and go workout, it would be so much fun to have someone to do the day with, celebrating the 100 as a main and pivotal milestone. I forgot I could have invited the Lord in on the day. So when I stopped at the dry cleaners He reminded me how Roy had to drop off and pick up the clothes because the two steep stairs without a railing conquered me every time. He and I then celebrated as I took to those stairs like they were nothing, all the while balancing the cleaning to be put into the trunk. Thanks God! Then at Target, where once again I was hypnotized to buy more than what I originally had gone in the store for, I shopped and didn't drop. There was a day and it wasn't too long ago, that I couldn't have done what I did today. Thanks Lord for that great reminder. This seems silly but I had to park some distance away from Lifetime today to go workout. Very funny we all want close parking to go exercise. Parked the good distance away and again the Lord reminded me of those difficult days when I literally staggered to the car after working out and nearly passed out several times in attempting that long walk back.

It was while riding the recumbent bike today, listening to Erwin McManus talk about God cares about the little things in life, that it dawned on me how wonderfully Jesus has cared for me since this heart and virus journey began in September 2008. Erwin's talk is based on Jesus turning the water into wine, a small detail of life that affected maybe 30-60 people on the planet at the time. He taught that we aren't willing to trust the Lord with the little things because we want Him in on the big things and it seems easier to trust Him on the big things. Only, His time had not come when His mom asked Him to intervene in a situation that wasn't going to mean anything than to those who were there. Erwin kept saying, Jesus was invited into the situation and He was given room to do things, the little things because He was invited to do so. Clinging to life while Hurricane Ike devoured Houston and the Gulf Coast, I remember asking Jesus to intervene, to help and provide wisdom, knowledge and what I needed on this sometimes daunting journey. I had no clue what I was in for and losing weight had always been such a tough thing for me. In reality, today March 2, 2010, how is the world affected or changed because I lost a 100 pounds and know the certainty that 40-50 more is the goal the doctors have for me? Not much. Wars didn't cease, the earth goes right on rotating on its axis...but in this room, in my heart and life, there is joy overflowing that 100 pounds lost brings just like the good wine brought joy overflowing to the wedding celebration. Give Jesus room in the little things. He brings so much more to life and the party when we invite Him to intervene. That podcast today on the bike was such a special gift from the Lord Jesus. I have much to be thankful for and over.

So, now that you have plodded through all the above words, comes the most welcome news of a give a way. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate on Monablog but to give a $100 in gift cards away...to one winner. So combining my loss to Houston's gain of a Nordstrom Rack, I am giving away gift cards from the Nord, Grand Lux, Old Navy and Barnes and Noble that will total $100.00. Once you find a parking place in the lot, you'll have gift cards to visit the main stores, have lunch and can make a whole afternoon of it. All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog. This rolls over to Facebook but don't comment on the Facebook notes, you need to come here nancysmonablog.blogspot.com and leave the comment. The drawing for the gift cards will be on March 15th.

THe Tooth and Nothing But the Tooth

Warning!!! This blog post is being written under the influence of Darvocet.

I had an abscessed tooth removed today. Seems like the thing just blew up in the past couple of days. What an adventure!

Always the prepared one, yea right, but I'm usually good to have a book and paper with me in waiting rooms. This morning I planned to work on a post using all the figure skating terms I could to describe the day. Since the parking garage at Memorial City Professional buildings is always a toss up and today no problem parking, I arrived early to the office. So, I thought I was in for a world of wait especially since the waiting room was full. Back to figure skating, I was especially inspired since watching the women's figure skating on TV last night. This post was going to be so full of triple toe loops, double toe, sokals, and the such, but I had no sooner sat down for my Dr. appointment when my name was called to come on back.

Did I bring my x-rays with me? I was asked. No, I cut out the middle man and came straight to the periodontist, I replied. It was fairly obvious something was amiss since my whole left side of my face was swollen. I should have taken a picture because it would be the perfect before and after picture of losing weight...all on one face, at one time. Dr. McCuttie came in and told me that I had an abscessed tooth, with a severe infection and the tooth could not be saved. Happy for me that it isn't a front tooth but one back out of sight. Did I have someone I could call to take me home after surgery? Poor Roy, he had just arrived at the office and had to turn around and come take care of me. I was trying to convince them that I could drive home but no was their only and final answer. After seeing some emails and texts I wrote after surgery, they were right to insist with the no.

It all went so quickly, IV inserted, two shots in my mouth and I don't remember another thing till I started waking up. They had me call Roy to tell him to stop at the Walgreen's in the building and pick up my prescriptions before coming upstairs.

My apologies to those I called and talked to after surgery. I think I called Carolyn to see how Dani was after her surgery. Good news, surgery was successful for Dani.

It is now February 27. This morning I looked under my pillow to see if the tooth fairy had visited me during the night. No such luck. I asked Roy if the Dr had even given him my tooth in order for the fairy to visit and Roy replied a disgusted NO! I'm rather disappointed. I hear the going rate for a tooth under the pillow is big bucks these days. Why...(she says in her little old lady voice) I remember it was a good tooth day if we got a quarter from the fairy. Some teeth were only worth a dime.

Going to try not using Darvocet today. We will see how that goes.

NORD Rack Opens and I Was There!

Patience is not my strong suite. I have no clue why it is taking my phone so long to send me the pictures I took this morning while standing in line to enter the Nord Rack. The parking lot was full and I took one of the one hour only spots, the only few remaining. The other choice would be to park across the street and take my life and throw it out to be run over by all the traffic on Post Oak. I know how drivers react when they are running late getting to the office... The line was actually orderly and besides the people trolling the line for friends who had gotten there already and procured a place in line, there were few trying to cut in line. When the line began to move, we began to clap. Then, just like they did when Nordstrom's opened, the associates formed a line cheering as we came in. For Nordstrom's I cried when this happened. For Nord Rack, I was trying to eye where the shoes are located. That would be in the back of the store.
OK, one of the pictures made it. I think we were about at the 515 spot, so we made it in with the first wave. When they actually opened the doors the line was around Grand Lux and they had the line snaking it's way to the front. I found a purse that I liked and since I was in line to pay before the 1000th person, I got a neat recyclable bag to put my purchase in. Inside the store it was dodging shopping carts and women on a mission. There were a few brave men, but not many. It was a fun thing to do and I'm happy I forsook Bible Study to come to the opening day at the Rack. Peggy sent me a picture of my friends in Bible study praying for me as I was absent. Wow, good thing I don't do BSF. I would be ostracized or something. Of course I was texting with Lisa P and Peggy while I stood in line. Actually, I would have shopped a little longer in the jeans area and the accessories area but I dislike crowds so much.

This is as I came out. As each person left, one was let in.

Here is the picture Peggy sent from Bible study. Our whole group is praying for me. Our lesson was concerning idols. If you look at the picture above I think Gena, in the tan jacket, changed coats and was at the Rack. Similar hairstyles and color.... Hmmmmm.... Actually, I love each and every one of these praying ladies. I love our discussion, especially if the commentary is good.

I went to the Nord Rack with quite a bit of pain. The left side of my face is swollen. Have an appointment in the morning with one of the cutest Dr's I have even seen! No, not Dr. Provenzano, but Dr. Schroeder. When he did my implant, think tooth not north of the human equator line, I told him while under twilight sleep, that he was the cutest Dr I had ever seen. I noticed in many of his reviews on websites, many other women made that very same comment. I never shut my eyes while he did the implant because I figured he'd never be this close to my face again. Who knows if this swelling and pain is from a dental thing or a virus attacking thing.

I still haven't lost the 100th pound yet, but as soon as I do, a give a way is going to come up on my blog. It's going to be a very good one!

Not Growing Weary...Here, There or in Prayer

Many here in Houston are tired of the cold weather...not me. I love that February is actually acting like its supposed to, you know like winter. I've been able to wear my winter togs just a little bit longer than usual and that has been much appreciated. I'm not looking forward to those hot summer days that stretch on just a little too long and they will soon be upon us.

Target must have some kind of secret hypnosis going on in their stores. Why do I always come out of there with more than I intended to purchase? I went yesterday to buy vitamin waters on sale and get a free 8 pack of Power Aid, which Roy drinks. How did I come home with a brand new shower curtain, bathroom rug, towels, no two bathroom rugs, and washcloths? Oh I have forgotten the new liner, rod and rings. How did that happen? All I know is, all the new stuff looks really good in our bathroom. We basically had the same colors going on but it was time for a refreshing. You can tell by this we do not have a free standing shower and separate bathtub. We're cleaning up old school. Roy really liked the new look. He hardly ever notices stuff like this.

Today, I had a truly wonderful new experience. I got a massage...OK that's not new you are thinking. The new is, Stacey came to my home, complete with table and all the accessories that go along with a massage. It was really great to just relax in my own home after she left. I even pulled out my spa like robe to make the experience more meaningful. Meaningful isn't the word I'm looking for...authentic, that's it! I lighted some candles and played the most spa like music I have on my iPod for background noise. The most spa like music I have is music that puts you to sleep. Didn't think that would be wise. So, it was instrumental, Waters Edge. Buddy was a little bit interested in what was happening. She kept standing on her hind feet and patting my head with her paw. I saw what was coming though, she got a little playful and was trying to play with my face looking downward in the headrest on the table. It was kind of funny to see that paw coming through there, but she got bored with the whole thing and went back to sleep. In the days before my appointment I kind of wondered how to handle the differences of she coming to me instead of me coming to her. But wonderful, professional Stacey put my mind at ease before I could even vocalize my thoughts.

Last night Erin and I had dinner at Nordstrom. Her first visit to the Bistro and hopefully, not her last. We had a great time and took care of some nutritional business while we were at it. I worked with Debbie yesterday afternoon. She is helping me regain my functional fitness. Not bad way to start a week and the anticipated opening of the Nordstrom Rack on Thursday, can't forget about that. I sit here with an overwhelming gratitude to God, being able to recover from this two year ordeal and having the best people helping me with the process. Thankful for a loving and supportive husband. Thankful for friends and their encouragement along the way. Then my mind turns over to thinking and more importantly, praying for Dani. Dani is one of my good friends. Her talents in designing and presentation is off the chart good. While I was working for Jason, she saved my ____ many a time in planning and doing the events with me. In this time she and I became friends. I cannot tell you how much I love her. Roy and I both love Scott and Dani. She starts most conversations with, "hey hon." She is in the hospital with heart problems and she needs our prayers. Please join with me and with her thousands of other good friends and family in lifting her to the Lord.

The Wonderful World of Helicopters

Roy and I got to do a totally fun thing this afternoon. After church and lunch with a friend...well after heading back home to change out of my new cute boots and wear my other glasses, we went downtown to the George R Brown Convention Center. My cousin Beth is in town for this huge helicopter expo. She works in the helicopter industry. I don't know what she does, but she was busy. We got to grab a few minutes with she and David, her boyfriend who also works in the helicopter industry, and then Roy and I set out on our own to explore all the helicopters. Roy was in man heaven! He sat in all kinds of helicopters and would have probably done some of the virtual flying if there hadn't been such a long line. I was thrilled with the complementary tote/briefcase bag. Awesome! Love those kinds of freebies.

I would write more about our wonderful adventure and learning, but Roy is crowding me about using the computer. Guess, I will relinquish it to him and just blog later.
Thanks Beth and David for a wonderful opportunity. We get to have dinner with them on Tuesday and we are really looking forward to that.

A Week in the Life....

Ah Thursday night. It's quiet around these parts. Roy has gone to sub in a bridge game and Buddy is worn out asleep on the bed. I find myself in a very contemplative mood. For one thing I need to write down my thoughts for a list that my nutritionist has asked me to do. The Advantages list. For example, by giving up_______ I will be able to do_____. My slowness in completing this request is that I have thought so much about it and don't want to be "funny" with my responses. A lot of times I do these lists and I do them very flippantly. I regret that decision later on. It is really so much more than I can get my brain around. The thought comes to me at least twice a day, I will never have a day anymore where I can just throw caution to the wind and eat whatever I want. Probably more like, eat as much as I want. A bowl of chips and salsa come to my mind. I also think about my neighbor who is dying from some kind of stomach cancer and he is only eating bananas and soup. I thought he was getting so thin because of his grief over his wife dying an untimely death last year. He would love to be making the decisions I make every day over food choices. Perspective...

On Wednesday I had another appointment with Debbie. You wouldn't believe this, but I am unbalanced. Yea, no shock there. It is hard work trying to regain some functional fitness. I am very nonfunctional right now. There is some improvement though. We did not do the squeeze the purple ball of death and lift the hips at the same time on Wednesday. Guess Debbie just needed the peace and quiet. I think we all did.

I hate Excel. No news there but felt the need to say that.

Roy is taking tomorrow off to go to 2 Dr appointments. He wants me to go with him. Ugh! Well the eye Dr I don't mind cause I would like to help him pick out his frames. I'm thinking I can drop him off and then pick him up and use the time to run errands or go have coffee at Buffalo Grille.

Last Friday was haircut and highlight day out in the land of Sugar. Stevie and I decided to add some red to the caramel undertones and blond highlights. It felt too dark to me. Every time I looked in the mirror I saw ________, un-named person whose hair I don't particularly care for. One day I wouldn't like it, the next day I would think it was fine. I called Stevie yesterday and she could see me today at noon. So, I only went to core group at Bible Study and didn't stay for the lecture portion. Oh, there is much more happiness with my color this evening.

Peggy and I worked out at Lifetime on Tuesday. She ran into a former student who teaches a class there. Once we downloaded all our ailments to her after her kind invitation to come to class, we all agreed, we were better off working out on the machines. My new swimsuit came and it fits! Now I have to work up to actually get in the pool to do my aqua walking. Uh, don't want to mess up my hair color and I don't look particularly attractive in a swimming cap.

So excited that Bunko is a cowgirl theme next month. The rodeo will be starting on March 2.

A week from today Nord Rack opens. I told Gena, our discussion leader in Bible study, I will not be there next week due to the Grand Opening of the Rack. Oh Rack of Ages, clearance for me. Let me find some delicacies.

Tina, Wee Wee Like a Wild Woman or Karate Kid?

Saturday night while flipping through the selections on TV, I came across a Tina Turner concert from 2009. She still has legs at 69 but her killer dance moves have been modified since I last saw her in concert. The intricate moves on Proud Mary that Amy Hodge, Peggy Bain, Lisa P and I performed in the Nordstrom parking garage beside Mustang Sally with the top down just a few years ago can now be simplified if we decide to dance again. Then the signature moment from her concert where she stands on a crane like arm that takes her over the audience really got my attention as she walked and danced on the arm of that thing. Apparently she is very functionally fit to make those kinds of daring moves without a railing on either side. And she is in stiletto heels to boot. I only hope to be able to move like Tina when I am 69. Heck, I would like to do that now at 55! There is one thing though that Tina should maybe re-think. Oh yea, like Tina Turner and I are best friends and she would totally listen to me...but I have to say it. Now when she makes those "hot and sexy faces", she just looks old. It looks more like severe grimacing of someone older who is having trouble walking or getting across the stage. Especially when she was walking that sexy bent over walk...that looked so cool years ago.

If you knew me in the 80's, you'll remember how I LOVED Tina and all the dance moves. I could do the "What's Love Got to do With It" walk and knew all the choreography of her popular songs. What's more, I would put on my stiletto heels and stand in the middle of our bed and do the dance moves while watching all the concert videos. Now that I have written that please do not take a train trip to Smutville as I needed the soft "staging" to be able to do some of the dancing.

Fast forward to this afternoon. I can't even keep my balance with one foot barely lifted off the ground. I did what I hate, I made the Monarch face (grimace) and made sounds like I was trying to lift a chair upstairs just to be able to lift my hips a couple of times off a yoga mat and squeeze the purple ball of death between my knees. Mind you all at the same time while remembering to breath. I became that noise making, grunting person in the gym today. Only, I was in the University Room, so maybe that doesn't count. Who am I to make critical observations of Tina Turner? If I were stopped for drunk driving today, I couldn't walk the line without falling off. I would be begging for a breathalyzer test to prove my innocence. Is it a crime to lose functional fitness?

So if you see me somewhere waiting in line and I am doing a flamingo pose; oh think not that I have to wee wee like a wild woman or getting ready to get all Karate Kid on someone. No, I am only trying to regain some of that athletic prowess I had years ago so I can pass a balance assessment. I lettered 3 years in volleyball in high school. I was named to the All American team as a softball catcher. I played USVBA coed volleyball and did well. I had one of the hardest and fastest amateur serves in tennis. Opponents cringed and ran for cover as I came to the net with a swinging backspin volley. Now I want to be able to walk a straight line and not be so unbalanced. As Roy and I were coming home from dinner tonight, we saw an older woman struggling to step off the curb, hold onto a sack and get into a van. Oh, I lamented to Roy, that's me right now. No he said, that's you when you are 110. Got to love the hubs with a response like that.

A Sabbatical Day-Nah Just Playing Hooky

I'm playing hooky or as I sometime refer to it, playing sabbatical, from Bible study this morning. Besides this is the kind of morning to stay home, and ease into the day with a hot cup of coffee. I woke up late and felt a tad beaten down. Beaten down not in a bad way, but in a way that is a good companion letting me know all the work is the path to being healthy. Oh and yes, praise the Lord, I lost another pound. Just four more to go to hit a hundred pounds lost.

This week has been busier than usual. Went to the Senior Adult Revival, TO SING IN THE CHOIR, two out of the three times. Wow, what a blessing! At last report I heard that 20 or so have come to know the Lord. Senior adults! That is awesome!! John Bolin talked last night in choir about never losing the wonder of God. Don't take God's workings as old hat, been there and seen it before. Good words that went straight to my spirit.

I love that King of the Hill is on the Toon Network at 9:00 pm. Peggy Hill cracks me up. She states the obvious, like..."in my opinion, breakfast is the most important meal of the day." So many times whether Peggy Hill is competing in a Boggle tournament or a Mrs. Heimlick County Pageant, she refers to those in support of her as Team Peggy Hill. I am so thankful for my Team Peggy Hill. Met with Erin D last night. She is keeping me on track nutritionally. I cannot say enough about her wise wisdom and counsel in all things nutritionally related. And she is so much fun. So mine is a nice problem to have, I'm not eating enough calories every day. It's not that I'm trying to starve myself, I am thinking about CHO, which stands for carbohydrates I found out last night from Erin. In that, I have thrown calories out of my thinking and so that layer needs to be added back so the old body doesn't think it is in starvation mode. Also had my second work out with Debbie B. Wow, I didn't know that innocent looking exercise balls and resistance bands could be so mean. No, actually, it is this, I didn't know I had lost so much in balance and now to use the new term I've learned, my functional fitness is in the pits. That is a direct quote from Debbie. We've got our work cut out for us. Loved that at the end of our time, Debbie prayed for me. Peggy, friend not Peggy Hill, has been so supportive of my journey. We had Chinese food for the Super Bowl at her house so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat too much pizza etc. We also ate veggies and fruit. Love that Peggy has now joined Lifetime and we can work out together. We did a light workout yesterday to get her acquainted with the machines. I have ordered a new swimsuit and as soon as it comes I will join her in swimming. I ordered it as a shot in the dark. Don't really know what size I am. All I know is my swimsuits I have are too big. I've never been a big swimmer but I can mix it up a little with aqua walking and the dog paddle. Or maybe it should be the God paddle, cause I certainly will be calling on Him a whole bunch in the pool. Then I cannot write about Team Peggy Hill without thanking and being so grateful for Stacey, the best massage therapist in the world! No hyperbole, just fact. Of course not many can have the Stacey experience now that she is in management but I still get to experience those healing hands and elbows. Numerous times the Dr's have told me how good massage has been in the healing process and so happy I made that commitment. OK, uh getting a massage once a month is not a hard commitment to keep especially with Stacey. My muscles and my spirit are so renewed after spending an hour and a half on the massage table. Oh back to Team Peggy Hill...there are so many who are praying and encouraging me, too numerous to list. I'm so thankful for all the friends that God has brought around me. Many long time friends and many new companions. In my opinion, we are to make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other one is gold. Bahaha...oh Peggy Hill, you are one of my all time favs!

Wake Up and Work Out...Oh and Roll Bunkos

I bought the multi bag of Werther Sugar Free hard candies. They over loaded the bag with chocolate mint, my least favorite. They skimped on the coffee flavor, my fav. I am happy to be able to even lift a sugar free hard candy to my mouth. I just had my first workout with Debbie B. She is a lovely woman and serious personal trainer. I will probably be using her name as a cuss word tomorrow because I have a feeling my glutes and hips are gonna be sore. No, it was really good and I go back and see her on Wednesday.

This morning I sang in the choir for the Senior Adult Revival. I do not consider myself a senior citizen but I do consider myself a choir member. It was fun singing and Brother John brought the Word. Then Cassi and I went to lunch and I introduced her to the wonderful world of La Fiesta. Cassi is so special to me. The Lord arranged our whole relationship and friendship. I love when God knows who we need to meet in life. I am blessed to call her my friend. She is a young friend, but her mom brought her up right on the Carpenters and old movies.

Yesterday, we went out to Bill and Peggy's to watch the Super Bowl. We had more fun and when we weren't distracted by the game or the commercials, we looked through Peggy's high school year books. Now that was fun. I was so glad we didn't flip between the game and the Sound of Music. If y'all have read Monablog for awhile, you know SOM is not one of my favorite movies.

We have Bunko tonight and I need to get my Valentines ready to take. I hope there is still strength enough in my arms to roll some Bunkos. I am so due!

Crazy Phone Call

Late yesterday afternoon our back up cell phone rang. I usually don't answer it unless I know who is calling. We have been getting a lot of calls but no message from one particular number and here it was blinking at me as the phone rang. So, I answered it. A gravely, old sounding woman asked, "where are you?" I asked, who is this? Again she said "where are you?" and I asked again who is this? She then responded, "I'm with your husband!" Oh, I said, are you on the bus with him? She hung up.

Psalms, Creativity and Randomness

Last week I downloaded from itunes Psalms and Proverbs from The Message Bible. The Psalms have been such a welcomed accompaniment during my workouts. This week I have finally arrived at Psalm 119. Always has been one of my favorite Psalms but with the fresh reading of links from bloggers who attended SMT and sharing what Beth taught, has made Psalm 119 very fresh to me in these recent days. These verses have stood out, "I'm single minded in pursuit of You; don't let me miss the road signs You have posted." Also love, love, love this, " Give me insight so I can do what You tell me, my whole life one long, obedient response."

Today's bike ride was with Erwin McManus. He taught on creativity and in such a totally different light from I Samuel 17. Awesome! I will definitely be re-listening to that one. We get so caught up in what the definition of creativity is and mostly we have it so wrong.

Some random things I am enjoying today and the above would be included;
  • Activa Yogurt with Quaker Oatmeal Squares
  • Hard boiled egg- I totally forgot how good those can be
  • Roy taking Buddy with him when he gets up, then closes the bedroom door. Oh those last few hours of sleep are so peaceful with Buddy not in them
  • Got a credit from Amazon because I pre-ordered So Long Insecurity and the price dropped right before the release date
  • Had a fun excursion to the Play Grocery Store. Got my lo-cal tuna salad, some lo-carb peanut butter and Egg Beaters. I could get the Egg Beaters somewhere cheaper but not planning to do any real grocery shopping until Friday.
  • Choir tonight and I'm not even saying that by faith! Choir is always good, now.
  • Nordstrom had a Private Event sale online today. Found some boots...made for walking...

Well, that's it. I need to go downstairs to the office and pick up a package. Hopefully one pair of glasses will be in tomorrow. That would be a random thing to give great praise to God. I'd say I have felt like Mr. Magoo but all but two or three of y'all might even know who I'm talking about.

Weekend Plus Monday Recap

The weekend was filled with celebrations. On Saturday we went to Richard and Sandy Bell's 50 year wedding anniversary celebration. It was wonderful! It was so much fun to celebrate with them and hundreds of their closest friends. I so wanted a piece of the cake but I was good. Roy said it was delicious. After celebrating there and catching up with friends in attendance, Roy and I went out to dinner. I am celebrating that I only ate 7 chips when I am allowed 10 when eating Mexican food.

After church and Sunday School Roy and I had lunch with a friend. OK, we had lunch with Dena at the Nord. It was delicious as usual. We had a really fun time. I also took back a blouse, too big and since Roy was with me and he quenches my spirit at times in the Nord, I got out of there with money back in the bank. Usually it goes back in and comes right back out because I have found something else wonderful.

I wish blogger had an " add to dictionary" choice in the spell check.

On Sunday afternoon it was so much fun to celebrate Heather Sproule. She is getting married in March. There was so much love and fun in that room. We would watch Heather unwrap gifts, then get caught up with seeing friends we hadn't seen in a while. Even though most of us still go to First Baptist, you can get on a time track and never see old friends who are on a different time track than you. I loved that afternoon shower full of friends and sweet goodies that yes, I resisted. Praise the Lord!

I have 6 more pounds to lose and I will have lost a 100 pounds. Think there will be a give a way on the old Monablog to celebrate. If only I can lose 6 pounds and have it coincide with the opening of Nord Rack on February 25. Guess you can see what I am thinking of giving away. Oh, actually I could give away gift cards from Old Navy, Barnes and Noble, Grand Lux and Nordstrom. You would never have to leave the shopping center. Any thoughts on this?

Today I went to the opthamalogist and had a very thoroughly extensive eye exam. No retina damage and my eyes look good. Just dealing with inflammation and that is causing my constantly changing vision. Should be settling soon. In fact I don't feel like it has gotten any worse since the end of last week. In 2011 I may have eye surgery so I won't have to wear glasses and won't have to deal with the shifting shadows of vision. Can't think of the name of that surgery right now but lots of people my age do it. All the eye drops were fun this morning. First eye, drops got in fine. Second eye, there was a whole lot of blinking going on which meant multiple attempts to get those drops in. There was yellow dye running down my cheeks. They gave me a tissue to blot it off but I seriously was thinking of leaving that dye on my face. Then when I saw Roy tell him I am jaundiced and can't cook. Oh yea, I don't cook anyway...maybe I should have said I could not perform my wifely duties. That only means I can't vacuum. Since my hysterectomy in 2005 I have been hanging onto the no vacuuming excuse. He isn't buying into that either.

That's about it on the weekend plus Monday recap.
